I suspect Bluesky won't like this, but I think people who care about victims need to pause and consider why every time prosecutors and police screw up/ don't give a shit, they say there's a "legal loophole" rather than admit the criminal system doesn't help victims.

I would argue that Altman, et al. think that only THEY are people. And that they see both the AI models AND other humans outside their cult of "super intelligence" as the same: lesser beings suitable for little beyond slavery. And they'll say and do anything to implement that vision of reality.

Agreed and its something I've been thinking about. I think there is just a fundamental difference between state violence and interpersonal violence, and the former can really only be dealt with through a campaign of punishment in view of the public.
