Even if they win, you’ve cost the developers millions — and potentially billions — of dollars, assuming the price of certain materials and commodities maintain their current trajectories.

That’s because, as I’ve mentioned, the cost of AI infrastructure is growing so fast. Literally, every month counts. The faster work starts and is completed, the better it is for the developer and operator — and the more likely that their facility will actually be profitable.

Of course, even if they win the initial fight, you might still be able to drag the developer in court, or find some kind of redress from your state government that your local government was unable to provide.

In Minnesota, for example, two massive developments — including one backed by Google — were stayed by order of a judge after it found that local officials and developers had failed to ensure the required environmental surveys were performed.

Again, AI data centers are campuses of buildings — and procurement likely takes place over a lengthy timeline, which means that any delay makes this shit more expensive.

And so, want to fuck with Sam Altman? Want to fuck with Nadella and Pichai and Zuckerberg and Jassy? Want to make Larry Ellison cry?

Get involved in local politics and make their lives a fucking nightmare.
