Perpetrators of domestic abuse often weaponise occasions like Valentine’s Day to exert control. One common tactic is lovebombing — excessive affection, gifts and promises used as part of coercive control to create unspoken expectations of compliance and silence.

Women with disabilities can be particularly vulnerable to #TechBasedAbuse especially when their identity intersects with other marginalised groups. On #InternationalDayOfPersonsWithDisabilities we want to highlight unique challenges women with disabilities can face when experiencing domestic abuse.
A graphic titled ‘How perpetrators weaponise disabilities’ shows three overlapping coloured circles. The left orange circle reads: ‘Hiding or controlling assistive tech (e.g. hearing aids, screen readers).’ The right yellow circle reads: ‘Limiting your access to benefits and online banking.’ The bottom purple circle reads: ‘Intercepting messages and gaslighting you.’ In the top right corner is the AWRC logo with the tagline ‘Changing Women’s Lives’. The background is a gradient of warm colours.
