Sexual violence can take many forms, and sometimes our sexual orientation and/or gender identity may be used as part of the abuse. So-called 'corrective' rape or sexual assault can be used as an attempt to change or suppress LGBT+ people's identity. Sometimes it can be motivated by anti-LGBT+ hate.
Bold text on a dark blue background emphasising that you are never to blame if something sexual happens without your consent. A bright yellow underline sits beneath the text.

Everyone processes traumatic events differently, and there is no 'one way' to feel after experiencing abuse or violence. For some people, experiencing abuse or violence can have a deep and lasting impact. Sometimes that impact can be felt soon after the experience, and sometimes it can be delayed.
Bold text on a light blue background emphasising how there is no
right or wrong way to feel after experiencing abuse or violence.

The need for specialist LGBT+ hate crime support is clear, but we don't have funding to do this Helpline work. Donations like yours help us be here for LGBT+ victims and survivors when they need us. No one should have to face abuse or violence alone. Donate £10 today at galop.org.uk/donate.

We know a ‘one-size-fits-all' approach to sexual violence support isn’t good enough. As a sector, we can do better. No one should try to 'change', 'cure', or suppress someone because of who they are. Remember, there's nothing wrong with being LGBT+. We don't need to be 'cured' or 'fixed'.
Bold text on a yellow background explaining that the language we use when we talk about conversion practices matters. There's an arrow encouraging users to swipe to the next slide to learn why. Conversion practices are methods of abuse that have a pre-determined aim to ‘change', ‘cure' or suppress someone's sexual orientation and/or gender identity. At Galop, we often talk about “conversion practices" or “so-called ‘conversion therapy’" because these practices are never ‘therapy’ - they're abuse.
