As prisoners are released today under the Early Release Scheme, serious questions remain about whether the criminal justice system is ready to manage the increased risk, particularly for victims of stalking. ❗️ We are extremely disappointed that this is going ahead. [1/4]

On 27 September 2024, the Super Complaint Committee published its report and 29 recommendations on stalking – evidencing all of our concerns and setting out a clear roadmap for improving how stalking is recorded, investigated, prosecuted and prevented, and how victims are supported.

Stalking requires a coordinated and multi-agency response. Multi-Agency Stalking Intervention Programmes (MASIPs) bring together police, criminal justice, health and other relevant partners to address perpetrator behaviour, reduce re-offending and improve support for victims.

Only 7% of police recorded cases of stalking in the year ending March 2025 resulted in a charge/summons. That is unacceptable. In 2022, we submitted a super-complaint against the police, finding systemic issues in the response to stalking across England & Wales. [1/4]

At 12:40 pm on 28 July 1986, Suzy Lamplugh left her office for what should have been a routine work appointment but never returned. Forty years later, we pause to remember Suzy and every victim-survivor whose life has been affected by stalking, harassment and abuse.
