Always fun to read an article about how people respond to incentives and how leaders are shocked by this. Cambridge cut its penalty for not moving during street cleaning and, shocking, more people parked on the street during street cleaning www.bostonglobe.com/2026/04/30/m...

Parking violations surged when the city ended towing for street sweeping violations. Doubling the cost of a ticket hardly made a dent.

The author focuses on Britain and land, but easy to see the effects on the US equity markets as well. US equities have largely been decreasing in supply over the last decade through stock buybacks. What happens as Google, OpenAI, SpaceX etc. start selling more shares this year to pay for AI CapEx?

Yep. DPW noted increased non-compliance through the pilot year. Especially impactful on fall cleanup. Council nevertheless declared the pilot a success. Frustrating that their concern about "equity" (the cost of recovering a towed car) turned into people just paying instead of being good neighbors.

The point of building housing isn't to make living in Cambridge cheaper than living in Framingham. Living in either spot contributes to our local economy. It's to compete with cities like Austin that are increasing housing supply, seeing price decreases, and picking up seats in the US House of Reps

Even if Amigos isn't a top 3 choice today, moving it allows for expansion of 2 of the top 5 choices in the district. Also, Spring Street is the eastern-most school building. Most new residential units in the last decade were built in East Cambridge. Demand will find a great, well-located school.

Move Amigos here. 2 classes K-8 + CPP = ~476 students. They're tight in their current building. Move Chinese Immersion, which has 200% demand in the lottery, from MLK to the ex-Amigos site. Double the CPP-5 classes = ~326 kids Freed up space in MLK meets their lottery demand of nearly 150% #CambMA

In Minnesota, all of the ideological cornerstones of MAGA have been proved false at once. Minnesotans, not the armed thugs of ICE and the Border Patrol, are brave. Minnesotans have shown that their community is socially cohesive - because of its diversity and not in spite of it.
