I’ve learned not to follow up too closely on if those individuals end up in prison It’s paralyzing when they don’t go to the hospital instead of to prison I’m going to keep doing this work so that folks don’t rot in jail if where they need to be is treatment This is a huge part of my perspective

One job I still currently have is for counties & the state to contract with me to go meet with someone in a jail to see if I think they meet criteria for involuntary commitment either because their charges ought to be dropped, were already dropped, or they were found not guilty by reason of insanity

Unfortunately the wrong thing happens with this All The Time I have personally recommended that individuals meet criteria for charges being dismissed or being not guilty by reason of insanity I’ve seen those people go to prison regardless of mental defect over and over and over This is not rare

the murder was 32 years ago Pike was 18, reportedly victim of what sounds to be horrific abuse as a child, and mentally ill she's been diagnosed with bipolar disorder & PTSD after the index event she needed HELP as a CHILD but the US Supreme Court just decided to let Tennessee put her to death

it's not illegal to let your patient leave quickly it's not illegal to let someone leave the ER it's not illegal to show them the door she patched up her patient and ushered them to safety, arguably unaware that this person was (allegedly) in formal custody Chloe is a hero and deserves to be free

one time in my 20s i was passing through another city and crashed with a guy i knew who was in love with my friend so thought it was safe. but he made an advance and i said no, so he started arguing with me. i didnt sleep a wink that night and stared from the couch at the kitchen knife on the wall.

One of the many horrific aspects of the death penalty is that states are not good at carrying out executions. Every time I post about this, someone responds by saying that it should be simple. But it’s not, and proponents of the death penalty need to own that.

the supreme court made a ruling TODAY that made this happen TODAY, despite a stay to revisit her case, and legal process was pending the state felt it was urgent to kill her today and they couldn't even do it beyond horrible, this is a hellscape this is the bad place

Chloe Renae Freeman, 33, was charged with instigating or assisting the escape of a person under arrest, according to a criminal complaint filed August 28 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. The charge carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison and a fine.

This 33-year-old nurse told the FBI she knew she was “going to set him free” after border patrol agents brought in a man whose face was bloodied and seriously injured. She treated him and helped him escape, and she faces charges now. He got away, and they never relocated him.

US Supreme Court allows Christa Gail Pike’s execution in Tennessee to go forward

They're killing her even though "the 6th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals voted 2-1 to issue a stay...a delay was needed to consider whether Pike’s allegations of childhood sexual abuse were fully considered at her sentencing" why is her death such a pressing matter for the state? how is this justice?
