The photo at the right is actually the more hopeful one, because it was taken after liberation.
Screengrab of a selfie video recorded by US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, in front of barracks in CECOT, a forced-labor prison in El Salvador, from which the country's totalitarian president has promised no one will ever be freed, and to which the Trump administration has deported Venezuelan refugees who had been granted asylum by the United States."Survivors lie on wooden bunks that are four tiers high, in a barracks in the Buchenwald concentration camp." Today I lost an NIH grant training clinicians to do research about intimate partner violence with perinatal women. More women are murdered in the perinatal period than die of obstetric complications. I didn't just lose a grant. We lost an entire cohort of people building careers to prevent that.

Take it from people inside #NIH: If we don’t shut the government down now and instead accept this horrible Republican CR, NIH will be dead. Forget the budget, the study sections, the councils: Trump and Musk will just cancel your grants as they did to Columbia. 🧪

This is a lie. Social Security is even more efficient than the private sector. It's a political tool they're wielding to destroy Social Security. "Fraud, waste, and abuse has become the rallying cry for Elon Musk’s dismantling of the federal government." donmoynihan.substack.com/p/musks-frau...
The reality is that ‘fraud’ is almost non-existent in Social Security. An examination of data from 2015 to 2021 shows that after accounting for overpayments and underpayments, and the recovery of overpayments, the loss rate is around .001%. As a point of comparison, the 2021 average retail shrink in the private sector, due to administrative errors, vendor fraud, shoplifting, and return fraud, was 1.44%.

This is a war on science, an illegal attack on functioning government, and it is racism. Real students, current and future research professionals -- working on the pressing issues of the day, for government and society -- which any functioning modern democracy needs, having their careers cut off. /5

98% of NIH grants that should have gone out this month, didn't. Despite court orders 'unfreezing' the funds, they are frozen. Biomedical research will grind to a halt. Clinical trials will end. All for no reason: the total impact on the US budget is miniscule

The powerful thing about this website issue is that it is very easy for the judge to verify compliance. That's very different for impoundment. The Trump admin can hold up payments and that's hard to check. But websites? We can all tell if the website has been restored.
