On the same day drug deaths tragically go up by 11%, Glasgow's IJB is facing having to cut preventative drug treatments. If the Scottish Government is serious about acting to tackle our drug deaths, then they should start funding action on it than cutting it.

Health and social care chiefs in Glasgow are aiming to save £20m by April 2027 due to “increasingly challenging” funding pressures.

A first round of cuts includes slashing the number of day care centres from ten to four and removing around 24 posts in a welfare rights service. Plans also include scrapping services for enhanced drug treatment and complex needs, replacing them with a combined offer

9. French authorities have just confirmed there are around 60 people on the small boat, and it set off at around 9am yesterday. Expected to be a 36+ hour crossing. For comparison, boats leaving around Calais normally take 4-8 hours to reach UK waters.

This'll take quite a thread to explain. 1. Yesterday, possibly late morning, a dinghy departed from north of Caen. It seemed lost, and went east along the Baie de la Seine for a long time without pushing outwards towards the UK. It was followed by 4+ French rescue vessels.

Worrying scenes in the Channel today, for all interested in asylum policy and maritime tactics. A small boat from Normandy spent more than 30 hours at sea. Those on board now on their 2nd rescue vessel as Border Force forced to play cat and mouse with far-right activists who have their own boat.

Just learnt of the passing of Adam McNaughton who died in early December aged 86 (1939-2025). He was a songwriter, cultural pioneer, English teacher & bookseller who gave us such musical classics as ‘The Jeely Piece Song’. Fitting that he was celebrated in a Celtic Connections concert this year.
