Either Witt is ordering this to happen as Sheriff and is part of the problem, or she does not have control over her deputies. Either way, this is very, very bad for her.

My guess - exactly what’s happening in Chicago. Most of what ICE is doing flies under the radar because they stopped doing the shock and awe crap. People can’t respond to something that don’t know is happening.

Chicago's priorities are fucked. Half the Southside is without power so folks are parked in weird places. So the city is out in force making sure they get that sweet ticket money. Who cares that the streets are impassable bc of downed trees.

The thing about AI, is that if it’s done properly, it requires a background in writing and an understanding of systems. So, at some point, I think it’s likely that we see an uptick in the need to hire people who know how to use words.

I also don't think we can ask for common people to run & then immediately ignore them for the crime of being thoughtful but poor. And literally the only way to fix that is to make it commonplace to donate to smaller campaigns so they can become larger.

Maybe not quite in the spirit because it is from a game not a novel, but I keep coming back to this lately and I think yeah I got that right.
At its heart, Guildless is a game about class, and it is
impossible to talk about class without also talking
about race, sexuality, and gender.

The following is the default. That’s true for literally
everything in this document, but it feels worth calling
out especially here.

The Empire is a human supremacist society. They are
by far the majority population, and nonhuman
nations which are absorbed by the Empire and
themselves catering to the Empire’s view of their
people. More than that, though, racism still very much
exists within the Empire itself. The central territories
(known as the Home Countries) are considered to be
the ‘truest’ reection of what it is to be part of the
Empire. The further one gets from the centre, the less
cultured they are taken to be.

The more you deviate from this imagined picture of
Imperial civilization, the harder time you will have
accumulating power, prestige and respect – at least by
legitimate means.

Oficially, the Empire is a multicultural melting pot
which is proud of its progressive and tolerant history -
expanding to unite the whole world under its
benevolent rule. In most of the Empire, there are no
laws mandating discrimination. Just as the Empire’s
laws say that theoretically a woman can be Emperor,
and marriage is allowed between any two people. The
Law doesn’t prohibit these things.

It doesn’t need to.

The remaining 4 defendants in the "Broadview Six" federal conspiracy case, stemming from a September protest outside the Broadview, IL ICE facility, have filed their own motions to bar certain evidence and opinions at trial. The defendants spread their motions over 3 separate filings last night.
DEFENDANTS’ CONSOLIDATED MOTIONS IN LIMINE
Defendants, by and through their respective counsel, pursuant to Federal Rules of Evidence
401, 402, and 402, respectfully move in limine to exclude certain evidence. In support of these
motions, the following may be said:
I.
1.
Introduction
On October 23, 2025, a federal grand jury returned an indictment charging the
defendants in this case with conspiring to (a) prevent by force, intimidation, and threat, Agent A, a
United States law enforcement officer, from discharging the duties of his office, and (b) injure him
in his person or property on account of his lawful discharge of the duties of his office, and while
engaged in the lawful discharge thereof, and (c) injure his property so as to interrupt, hinder, and
impede him in the discharge of his official duties, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 372. (Count 1). Dkt.
#1. DEFENDANTS’ MOTION TO BAR LAY OPINIONS OFFERING
LEGAL CONCLUSIONS AND SPECULATIVE CONCLUSIONS
Defendants, by and through their respective counsel, move to preclude (1) any testimony
and lay opinions offering legal conclusions about the alleged wrongfulness or illegality of
Defendants’ (or other protesters’) conduct; and (2) characterizations of Defendants (or other
protesters’) conduct that amount to legal conclusions. Outside of limited circumstances, the
Seventh Circuit has “held repeatedly that lay testimony offering a legal conclusion is inadmissible
because it is not helpful to the jury, as required by Rule 701(b).” United States v. Noel, 581 F.3d
490, 496 (7th Cir. 2009). A lay witness’s purpose is to inform the jury what is in the evidence
rather than to tell the jury what inferences to draw from that evidence. Id. “Once the evidence is
presented, the jury is capable of examining it and determining whether it supports a conviction; it
does not need lay testimony to assist in making that determination.” Id. DEFENDANTS’ MOTION TO BAR RULE 404(b) “OTHER ACT” EVIDENCE
Defendants respectfully move in limine to bar the government from introducing any “other
act” evidence pursuant to Rule 404(b) of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure.
On March 19, 2026, Defendants filed a motion for notice and production of Rule 404(b)
material. (Dkt. #105). On March 20, 2026, the Court entered an order construing the request to be
for materials that would need to be admitted pursuant to a motion in limine, which were to be filed
on April 21, 2026. (Dkt. #107). On April 21, 2026, the government filed its consolidated motions
in limine. (Dt. #124). While raising a number of arguments, the government failed to identify any
“other act” evidence as to any of the Defendants that it sought admission pursuant to Rule 404(b).
As such, the Court should enter an order barring the government from attempting to
introduce or otherwise elicit any evidence of a character trait or of a crime, wrong, or other act
allegedly committed by any of the Defendants to prove their character to show that on a particular
occasion they acted in accordance with the character and any similar evidence falling within the
scope of Rule 404(b).
