But that's because he's a leading man in a Nolan film, which means he has to be a very sad boy in a somewhat emotionally cold world whose decisions have negative consequences for women without that ever quite being the focus. That's a real difference and very much Nolan having his schtick rather than just embracing the first of the moderns read.
