In 2017, when the Republicans tried to repeal the ACA, one of the key factors in its ultimate failure was the opposition of almost every sector of the health care industry. The scale and scope of the health care cuts contained in the GOP budget will likely (if more slowly) create similar opposition

Chuck Schumer: "No president should be allowed to unilaterally march this nation into something as consequential as war with erratic threats and no strategy." (via Punchbowl)
Leader Schumer Statement On
U.S. Strikes On Iran
New York, N. Y. - Today, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) released the following statement after President Trump announced that the United States struck targets in Iran:
"President Trump must provide the American people and Congress clear answers on the actions taken tonight and their implications for the safety of Americans. No president should be allowed to unilaterally march this nation into something as consequential as war with erratic threats and no strategy. Confronting Iran's ruthless campaign of terror, nuclear ambitions, and regional aggression demands strength, resolve, and strategic clarity. The danger of wider, longer, and more devastating war has now dramatically increased.
"We must enforce the War Powers Act and I'm urging Leader Thune to put it on the Senate floor immediately. I am voting for it and implore all Senators on both sides of the aisle to vote for it."

We have bombed a nation we are not at war with and have done so without Congress knowing about it, voting on it or approving it. President Trump’s actions are not only unconstitutional—they are dangerous.

AOC: “It is absolutely and clearly grounds for impeachment.”
The President's disastrous decision to bomb Iran without authorization is a grave violation of the Constitution and Congressional War Powers.
He has impulsively risked launching a war that may ensnare us for generations.
It is absolutely and clearly grounds for impeachment.

There's no declaration of war, and no AUMF that covers this. Entering this war is wrong on the merits; we had a perfectly peaceful way to address Iran's nuclear program. It's also unlawful. A democratic republic should not be able to enter a war of choice on one man's say-so.

This is not about the merits of Iran’s nuclear program. No president has the authority to bomb another country that does not pose an imminent threat to the US without the approval of Congress. This is an unambiguous impeachable offense.

This is the Washington Post - today - describing the fact that RFK Jr. does not believe that HIV is the cause of AIDS. It is not controversial at all. It is a fringe, extremist conspiracy based in science denial and it is objectively false.
It is unclear whether Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. plans to bring the guidance in line with his own controversial views about an infectious disease that 30 years ago was the leading cause of death for people 25
to 44 years old.

If only major media had accurately described RFK Jr. in these terms during his nomination instead of using the inaccurate and softened “vaccine skeptic.” The media wrongly think that using “vaccine skeptic” is a way to avoid bias, but all it did was bias us in favor of RFK Jr, death, & disability.

The provider tax is complex and hard to understand—which is precisely why the GOP is using it to hide & disguise massive Medicaid cuts. It’s also an indirect effort to repeal the ACA’s Medicaid expansion. The loss of funds will likely be so high that some states will stop covering this population.

It is true that sometimes New York City is frightening. For example today these men were loitering in the hallway of the 12th floor of the federal building.
4 men in jeans, t-shirts, bullet proof vests, balaclavas pulled up to their eyes, hats. They are armed and have badges but are not in uniform. They look both incredibly menacing and unbelievably dumb. They are standing at the end of an office hallway.

Describing Medicaid work requirements as a solution in search of a problem isn’t exactly right. Work requirements are actually a solution to a big Republican problem…namely, how to hide and disguise the massive, destructive cuts to Medicaid that the GOP has to make in order to pay for tax cuts.

The refusal to state that the Trump administration and the extreme right are fomenting violence is not neutrality or objectivity but less than ideal reporting. The "turbulent national backdrop" did not magically appear.
Mr. Lander’s arrest unfolded against a turbulent national backdrop. Many politicians are increasingly on edge about political violence and anything that might encourage it, after the assassination of a Minnesota lawmaker and her husband over the weekend.
