In 2017, Criselda Vasquez painted this portrait of her parents and titled it "The New American Gothic." Last month, her father, the man in this portrait, was abducted by ICE after being in the US for 30+ years. The family is now struggling with bills. A GoFundMe has been started: gofund.me/456d8a193
A painting of a man and a woman standing in front of a red Chevrolet truck. The man is holding a hoe; the woman is holding a bucket with house cleaning supplies. The artist's two parents stand proudly in front of the painting.

This Mother’s Day, I’m thinking about the immigrant moms around the twin cities, who trusted us to drive their kids for months on end. Who emphasized the importance of school. And those that made the painful decisions to keep their kids inside. I hope they can breathe easier today. The best of us.

IMO that DNC autopsy is going to expose the Democratic Party's unwillingness to support Kamala Harris in 2024 because of her race and gender and the DNC refused to make GOTV investments in Black/Brown areas, while spending all the $$$ on consultants. That's why they want it buried. JMO.

The overriding goal of America's right wing is to restore chattel slavery so they can own Black people. That's it. Whether they will admit it or not, whether they'll even admit it to themselves, their goal is legal domination and subjugation through violence of Black people. Everything leads there.
