I wish more reporting on private ADHD/autism assessment providers mentioned that many NHS pathways - as in, the default local not-Right-To-Choose ones - are outsourced to those same providers. If there are quality concerns, the Government should be investing in high-quality NHS pathways.

The question comes time and again about how to apportion this between the individual actor and the system. But systems are made by people, and high-agency individuals have the power to change how systems work. It's not good enough for them to shrug and say "meh, system at fault".

Thinking about system design and culpability. When a system fails catastrophically, how do you apportion blame between: - the architects of the system itself. - high-powered actors within the system. - low-powered actors within the system. This is about motornormativity, but also other things.

Disabled people, like trans people, are still a group Labour are happy to throw under the bus. Y'all (well, some of you) like to dunk on the Greens, but they are the ONLY party in England that unequivocally stands up for these groups.

Mad overnight dash to London. I got home last night to a kitchen full of the smells of chilli that had just.been cooked and tomatoes that were being processed and my heart sang. And now I am eating said chilli for breakfast and it is so nice eating something I grew again!

So an NCS in maybe ten years? If full NCS proves unaffordable without tax rises, any future government—Labour or not—could retain the pension reform while keeping free-care entitlement relatively narrow- if at all.

If this is true, it looks increasingly like the pension reform is being banked now, while the hard decisions about what a genuinely universal NCS would cost — and how to fund it — are being kicked down the road- a long way www.ft.com/content/e9f2...

In Lenin’s Imperialism and the second and third books of Capital and more recently in Tricontinental’s updates to these or in Pikettys stuff they don’t talk about your shitty little local capitalists , but they focus on these mega capitalists, the bank’s banks

Your landlord has a mortgage with the bank, the small business tyrant has a loan from the bank, there’s representatives from the private equity group that come and lay you off and say “too much indirect labor” But they don’t own the bank, they don’t own the private investment

I hope Canadians understand that there are now and will be more foreign-based attempts to virally influence the Alberta separatism vote. Part of this effort will be to sow division within Canada. Non-Albertans attacking "Alberta(ns)" or Albertans attacking "Ottawa/Canada" is exactly what they want.

Having unfortunately increasingly socialized with people in elite circles in the last 8 years its a pattern you can't help but notice. A poor, struggling working class person becomes elite as soon as they dye their hair blue.A guy who owns five establishments is working class when he dons a MAGA hat

Some crafty things I have been up to recently and for some reason decided to post as a tangent to a discussion about architecture. Lacemaking, sashiko mending, and the rosary I made this summer.

Made it to some (not all!) of the charity shops today. Particularly good finds include: - a cassock that will never in a million years fit me but is in good condition other than needing a button replaced - a rather nice 100% wool coat that *almost* fits me -- enough to get away with wearing it open.

Excellent damsons again this morning. I am bemused to have ended up at maybe the only theological college with seasonal fruit provision similar to or better than I managed at home. My damsons didn't fare well this year and it was a horrible year for my apples too.

Some #tinyjoys from today: 1) saw a cat, who I suspect was the one making Weird Meows at 5.30am outside my window, excellent catting 2) first tutor group meeting and a bit of fairly relaxed social time afterwards; I really am better in smaller groups and that helped a lot 3) really excellent damsons

RIP Annie Dillard. A bit of "The Writing Life" I keep with me: One of the few things I know about writing is this: spend it all, shoot it, play it, lose it, all, right away, every time. Anything you do not give freely and abundantly becomes lost to you. You open your safe and find ashes.
