Arthur Doler @arthurdoler.com · 23/09/2026Agreed. I also think this is kind of a trap? If the organization isn't big enough to have the decision-making be completely corporatized, or the company isn't run by someone with the same brain as you, you can easily wind up thinking everything's okay but it's actually not, and nobody's telling you. 040

Arthur Doler @arthurdoler.com · 23/09/2026The title slides are a better representation of skill since I don't always go hard on the individual slides, since they're on-screen for so little time, usually. 010
Arthur Doler @arthurdoler.com · 23/09/2026This, but for drawing your own slides for talks. Here is a series of images of my slides over the years. Starting in 2017 and continuing until my most recent. Just get started. You'll get better as you go, even if you only build talks once or twice a year. 221
Arthur Doler @arthurdoler.com · 23/09/2026This is why I've never actually touched Claude, and never will until I'm forced into it to keep a job. Which I estimate is going to happen here in about three to six months. 040
Arthur Doler @arthurdoler.com · 23/09/2026In the face of never having to provide concrete and useful outcomes, and a world where people are increasingly isolated and lacking socialization skills, of course I'm going to go spend my time with My Plastic Pal! He always tells me I'm right. 140
Arthur Doler @arthurdoler.com · 23/09/2026But nobody cares about the output, because as you noted yesterday, most startups seem to actually acquisition bait. On top of that most public companies are nothing but Number Must Go Up anymore, which is driven by nothing but investor storytime. 130
Arthur Doler @arthurdoler.com · 23/09/2026Close-to-the-metal computing is full of mess and compromise and bitwise math. Caring about the product is full of humans and messiness and more compromise. In the middle is the space where you and the LLM can craft a beautiful architecture that does nothing the users want, but looks like it does. 150
Arthur Doler @arthurdoler.com · 23/09/2026(Up until a certain level where politics once again rears its head.) An LLM turns that consistency into a sort of Your Plastic Pal Who's Fun to Be With. It's still consistent - not in results, but in emotional tone. It's consistently your supporter, your ally. It only argues if you tell it to. 150
Arthur Doler @arthurdoler.com · 23/09/2026Computers have clear rules, clear permissions, and consistent execution. And a compiler always errors the same way, whether it's the 3rd time you've made the same error or the 300th time. There's no ambiguity over the experience. As you note, huge corporate structures function the same way. 150
Arthur Doler @arthurdoler.com · 23/09/2026Apologies in advance for threading in your replies, but... I have held a theory for a long time that a lot of developers got into the practice because computers are in a lot of ways ideally suited as an interaction modality for neurodivergent people or people with emotional struggles. 260
