What's behind this tidal wave of epidemics? In the largest study ever conducted on emerging infectious diseases, we show that the popular explanation - "our relationship with nature is out of balance" - doesn't hold up. Out now in Nature, after half a decade of work: www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Regardless of what it means in political discourse, real HR staff may be "working class" but they work specifically to protect the company and thereby the owners or bosses. HR, in reality, isn't there for the worker. It's there for the owner(s).

there is a big difference between the precautionary principle + its application and how folks are using it on here — risk to the public does not magically justify maximal restrictions of individual rights let's start with some high-level context (from wiley/gostin public health law 3e) [1/3]
Public health agencies should adopt the policy that is most likely to promote health and prevent injury and disease while imposing the fewest personal burdens. The least restrictive alternative does not require agen-
cies to adopt policies that are less likely to protect health and safety. Rather, health officials should prefer the least intrusive and burdensome policy that achieves their goals as well as, or better than, alternative approaches. For example, during the 2014 Ebola epidemic, some states sought to quarantine health workers returning from West Africa. Monitoring workers for fever and symptoms provided a less restrictive and equally effective intervention. from p64

Unequivocally false. There is much that can be done in humanitarian response to a nuclear detonation. In Ukraine, for example, they prepared to treat burn and H-ARS victims if the Russians carried out threats. Nuclear weapons are bad enough without having to resort to hyperbole. Do better @psr.org.
