Housing, in particular, is one place where the evidence is overwhelming. Rent controls create scarcity, political power, queues, and terrible allocations (just like in 101 with some added Public Choice).

We have updated our paper on the dynamics of the Great Gatsby Curve! A thread.
📈📉 The Great Gatsby Curve (GGC) is an empirical regularity that shows a negative correlation between intergenerational mobility and inequality. It has been shown to hold both across and within many countries.

2022 again? Repricing of real rates puts risky assets and EA spreads under some pressure. 2 observations: 1. In contrast to 2022, BTP over Bund is currently not affected by increasing Bund premium. 2. Investor risk appetite falls, but remains robust compared to 2022.

The IRA can be interpreted as trying to implement some kind of sequencing logic. First, use heavy subsidies to a create pro-climate lobby, which would benefit from carbon pricing at some later point. Second, once that lobby is, relative to the carbon-intensive lobby, strong enough, shift the policy

Bottom line of this line of argument: stringent climate policy is not politically feasible. Since there will be no instrument that perfectly protects everyone (at least at lower incomes) from losing something. And this appears to neatly describe the traffic light coalition consensus.
