When I first moved to Australia, I felt weird about the "no tipping" culture here. Now, after 4 years, I've done a full 180. It feels weird when I go home and am asked to "optionally" subsidize low wages and pretend it's a form of enticement for better service (even if there isn't any service).

Replaced is suuuper stylish! The combination of pixel/voxel aesthetic with heavy atmospherics and a cinematic camera is really nice. Character controls/animation have a satisfying weightiness to them as well (reminds me a bit of Flashback). I recommend giving the demo a go!

Spent some time trying to do conservative culling of geometry for distance function evaluation. Turns out I ended up reinventing something like GJK (which I really have no clue about or experience with) with exact bounds.

I've got a new blog post for all of you fine folks! It runs through the additions to D3D12 since it was released, and finishes up with some of the things that have changed for me personally in my code. (And yes it's really been 10 years 👴). therealmjp.github.io/posts/ten-ye...

Ten Years of D3D12
For those of us that have been using it from the start, it can be hard to believe that Direct3D 12 has been around for nearly ten years now. Windows 10 was released on July 29th 2015, and D3D12 has be...

Ok so when Microsoft was making the first Xbox I was doing Flash ads for them and they had an 800 page brand standards binder and when I used a green that was, and I quote, 6% off, I got my ass chewed out. Fucking losers now. Have some goddamn self respect.

Tried setting up some hardcore viscosity test cases earlier. Non-dimensionalized viscosity is roughly 20,000, for those who know what that implies, using 3 substeps (so roughly 6500 per substep) Convergence for the implicit solver isn't perfect. I need more time to tune it.

Fairly happy with this week's progress in simplifying and streamlining the way I do my shared memory caching. Previously I had maybe 3-4 different hacky poorly generalizeable and unwieldy approaches that I never consistently decided on in sparse EmberGen, but now it's neat and easily generalizeable

So what is the tiniest possible fluid simulation? Can we get anything interesting from a single cell? For this we'll be using a standard MAC grid, which means we'll represent horizontal velocities (red) on the vertical edges and vertical velocities (green) on the horizontal edges of each cell.

At JangaFX we now have AMD's wonderful Radeon Graphics Analyzer integrated directly. We can see the corresponding ISA of all of our shaders, the Playground lets us see interactively what the compiler does, and the Overview provides an overview of all our shaders.

A while ago I did a writeup on some interesting observations I've made with regards to the Jacobi method, in particular for numerically solving the Poisson equation. It's not too flashy, but you might find it interesting. Fancy recurrence relations inside! gist.github.com/vassvik/4044... #math

Alt: The Jacobi method is typically quite slow and useless in isolation, but it has lot of interesting properties that's useful in other contexts, so it's worth studying.

I can't recommend using a repository to backup your code enough, even if it is a personal project. Many times did I rescue accidentally deleted files, diff-ed code to find changes I forgot I made and easily moved my project between PCs. Also, it is good experience for future programming jobs.

Coming very soon in LiquiGen is my new "Units" ground type. It was a suprisingly lot of work, since there's a careful balance between being "too busy" when zooming in, and also subdividing "too late" as we zoom out.
