The corn is gone Dev-harvested, bare and desolate Suffolk skies (not haiku) #photography
A low-angle, wide shot reveals a flat, brown, tilled agricultural field stretching along the bottom of the frame. The vast expanse above is dominated by a vibrant blue sky dotted with scattered, fluffy white cumulus clouds. Multiple sets of dark power lines crisscross diagonally across the upper portion of the frame, spanning from left to right against the bright sky. Sunlight evenly illuminates the rural landscape, emphasizing the stark, minimal composition divided cleanly between the texture of the cultivated earth below and the open atmosphere crossed by utility lines above.

#TBT to this from 2012 in honour of Michael Gove starring as an invasion-battling leader in Sky's new show The Wargame. If you don't know what or who this comic is about... just count yourself lucky and scroll on, no worries.
[Opening scene is WESTMINSTER, LONDON. Over Downing Street a huge ALIEN SPACECRAFT hovers, silent, still, filling the whole sky a la Independence Day].

[Cut to INSIDE 10 DOWNING STREET. The (then) prime Minister DAVID CAMERON is looking out of his office window at the ship.]

VOICE FROM OFF-SCENE, BEHIND CAMERON:
Prime Minister…

CAMERON [addressing the person behind him, still keeping his eyes fixed ahead in dread at the spaceship]:
Yes?

[We see the speaker is MICHAEL GOVE, then Education Secretary]:

GOVE:
Let me do it.

CAMERON:
For God's sake, Michael, you're the Education Secretary! You've never flown a fighter plane in your life!

GOVE:
But I know I could do it, David. I could fly a fighter plane into the big space- ship...

...and shoot all the aliens.

CAMERON:
But you have no military training!

GOVE:
David

I haven't told you this, but...

I used to be a journalist. For The Times.

[Cameron reacts, turning to look at Gove with awe and respect, as if only now truly seeing him for the first time].

GOVE:
I wrote two articles about planes, David.

I've got strong opinions about aliens.

I know I can do this job.

[Cut to a title card panel]:

AND SO:

[Then cut again to Cameron on the roof of Number 10, watching a Michael Gove pilot a fighter jet up towards the spacecraft, and then completely miss it, careering towards Earth, as Cameron buries his face in his hands].

[Ends]

Of all the weird recurring motifs of the stories people tell me about the AI labor wars, the *weirdest* is when bosses demand to be reassured that their contractors and workers will *absolutely* use AI to get the job done.
A worn out keyboard, cropped over the bottom left modifier keys. Posed in the image is a bearded prophet in Bronze Age robes, arms uplifted in worship.

Once you understand the corporate culture of AI hyperscalers is everyone cooking their brains by locking themselves in the bathroom, holding flashlights under their chins, and saying "Aaaaaaaaaay Eyeeeeeee" until they wet themselves in terror, things snap into focus: pluralistic.net/2023/06/04/a...
A cutaway view of a stone tower containing an elaborate water-powered medieval geared machine. Rising out of the machine is a rainbow-tinted, pixelated God with the robes, beard and all. To one side of this scene is a cluster of tiny people in Jesus-era robes, falling about themselves in religious ecstasy all over a stone staircase, atop of which stands a robed priest with his hands upraised. The background is a set of shining golden rays, emanating from pixel-God.

Dog walk scenes (Suffolk) #photography
A eye-level, wide shot shows a dense, horizontal swath of mature, golden-brown corn stalks stretching across the middle of the frame under a dramatic sky. The dried cornstalks feature curled leaves, upright tassels, and visible corn cobs hanging along the stems. Below the crop, a flat strip of dry, light-brown mowed grass runs along the bottom foreground. Overhead, a vast, overcast sky is filled with textured grey and white cumulus clouds, partially revealing patches of light blue behind them. Faint, horizontal power lines stretch across the lower portion of the cloudy sky just above the field of corn.

Suffolk Skies. Gorgeous... #photography
A tall, steel lattice electricity pylon stands centered in the background of a rural field under a bright blue sky filled with scattered white and light gray clouds. Power lines stretch horizontally across the upper frame, connected to the pylon's metal cross-arms. In the foreground and midground, a dense crop of mature, dry corn stalks with golden-brown, withered leaves and stalks fills the lower half of the image. A few sparse green leaves peek through near the bottom, while the tops of the corn stalks sway slightly against the clear, open horizon.

Now we're getting somewhere. Big Suffolk Constable skies (and power line obviously). #photography
A low-angle, wide photograph captures a vast field of dry, golden-brown corn crops or tall grass swaying under a dynamic sky. The stalks fill the lower third of the frame, their crisp texture highlighted by bright daylight. Above, a sweeping expanse of deep blue sky is filled with fluffy, white cumulus clouds cast with subtle shadows. Several thin, dark power lines stretch horizontally across the middle of the frame, bisecting the cloudy sky above the horizon. The bright sunlight creates a sharp contrast between the earthy tones of the dry vegetation and the cool hues of the open sky.

Premier League stadiums #photography #postphotography
Abstract artwork featuring a textured, heavily scratched square background in muted sage green and olive tones. At the center of the canvas sits a vibrant, deep emerald green oval shape, encircled by a thick, misty ring of bright white and light gray pencil-like strokes. The overall composition creates a portal-like visual effect, with soft, overlapping circular hatch marks contrasting against the coarse, cross-hatched square backdrop. The painterly style relies on fine line work, layered textures, and a subtle glowing effect emerging from the light central halo surrounding the intense green core.

An alternative interpretation of the 68 satellite images of Norfolk and Suffolk (UK) WWII airfields layered into a single image. Part of a show currently running at Halesworth Gallery. #photography
A textured square image featuring a heavily distressed grunge surface with blend of forest green, sage, off-white, and dark moss tones. Fine, scratch-like crosshatching and horizontal lines run across the composition, creating a weathered, parchment-like or mottled fabric effect. Deep green patches dominate the corners and edges, contrasting with brighter pale green and cream highlights in the center, giving the pattern depth and vintage character.

68 satellite images of Norfolk and Suffolk (UK) WWII airfields layered into a single image. Part of a show currently running at Halesworth Gallery. #photography
An abstract aerial photograph displaying a dense, highly layered composite of urban or industrial infrastructure against a bright, warm amber and gold background. Dozens of white, rectangular building rooftops, warehouse structures, and grid-like complex layouts are scattered centrally and across the canvas, overlapping transparently. Intricate networks of fine roads, highways, intersections, and circular road loops weave through the warm, rust-colored terrain underneath. The visual blending creates a chaotic, textured, semi-translucent mosaic effect reminiscent of circuit boards or architectural blueprints overlaid on weathered earth, mixing stark geometric white shapes with rich ochre, tan, and copper tones.

The speed and direction of cloud travel has a big impact on how the colours come out in the these long exposure Trichromes. Definitely needed to include a composition with an overhead power line. So Suffolk! I'm sure Constable would have included them in his landscapes... 😮 #trichrome #photography
A surreal landscape photograph showing a rural field under a vibrant, iridescent sky. In the foreground, dry, golden-brown grass stretches across the lower portion of the frame. Directly behind it, a dense row of dark green corn stalks spans horizontally across the midground. Thin power lines stretch across the sky above the crop line. The dramatic sky bursts with glowing, prismatic streaks of pastel pink, purple, bright green, cyan, and yellow radiating outward in a rainbow-like haze. The entire composition features a prominent chromatic aberration effect, creating a red and cyan glitch-like fringing that gives the image a dreamy quality.

Suffolk Big Skies Making the most of cloudy skies for now "The sky is the source of light in nature - and governs everything," Constable #trichrome #photography
A surreal landscape showing a wide field of tall, dry, tan grasses in the foreground, with a line of dark green crops stretch horizontally across the middle distance. Above, the sky is filled with swirling, dreamy streaks of pastel iridescent colors, including vibrant shades of turquoise green, soft lavender purple, light pink, and cyan. The entire image has a soft, glowing, slightly blurred or chromatic aberration effect, creating a ethereal, dreamlike atmosphere reminiscent of polar stratospheric clouds or a rainbow aura over a serene rural field.

Another from my Big Suffolk Skies homage walk. Whilst Flatford mill was a corn mill, the main crop milled would have been wheat for bread flour so this corn field doesn't quite fit the theme, but good enough for me. #trichrome #photography
A vibrant, dreamlike photograph taken from a low angle between two rows of a lush green cornfield. A narrow, dirt path with a distinct tire track texture cuts straight through the middle, leading toward a distant horizon. The corn stalks on either side are heavily blurred with a chromatic aberration effect, creating shifts of pink, cyan, and green light around the edges. Above, the sky is filled with streaks of soft, glowing clouds painted in surreal, iridescent pastel hues of pink, purple, turquoise, and yellow, giving the entire landscape a psychedelic, otherworldly atmosphere.
