Just so predictable. Labour got themselves into this because those who aren't True Believers thought they could appease those who are then the issue would go away. Not so. The GCs are obsessives attempting a top down reorientation of our culture to spite a minority they despise. They must be fought.

The trouble of reducing international partnerships to just the fancy photo-op and PR campaign about internationalisation, @qmul.bsky.social, is that you have no interest in listening to what happens after with the people on those scholarships, or dismiss those ringing alarm bells as trouble-makers.
Mexican Stew: the collapse of a funding organisation in Mexico has left at least 50 Mexican postgrad students in the UK unfunded and UK universities potentially out of pocket. The Fundación Politécnico (FP), an alumni-funded body providingscholarships in Mexico and to Mexicans astudying abroad, is in a legal battle with Mexico's Instituto Politecnico Nacional with accusations flying in the national press about control of funds, and criminal complaints now filed. A letter sent to students in the UK in March told them that due to FP's circumstances, 'economic support is temporarily suspended'. It recommended seeking alternative funding. Students in the middle of three-year courses say their grants were suspended 'without warning, without deadlines, and without a support plan'. They have sought help from the Meixan embassy, but fear their study visas will be at risk if they can't find alternative funding quickly. The majority of the students affected are at QMUL which announced its 'innovative, leading agreement' with the foundation during a board meeting and dinner in Mexico City in 2021. The scheme promised 'fully funded postgraduate programme studies' and joint research projects. A symposium at QMUL in 2024 was attended by the then heads of both Mexican organisations, who gushed about 'memorable life experiences and opportunities' for young scholars. It isn't a s if there was no warning. The row between the Institute and the foundatoin in Mexico has been reported in the Mexican press since last summer; students had emailed asking if funding would be affected but got no answer. Both student and staff unions at QMUL say they flagged the looming disaster to university management and the Office for students in the UK but no action was taken to prepare. 'all the officials channels failed these students' sad a UCU spokesperson at QMUL. 'makes you wonder how many more disasters like this are currently taking place or about to take place'.
