Today I announce that teenage (& still current) me was a big fan of dubstep and its subgenres... 🎶 Currently prepping for AIMS 2026, where I explore antiquity receptions in electronic dance music, from stereotyped remixes to technologized futures where antiquity tries to reclaim humanity or fantasy.

The new Roman historical board game Aeterna (M. Wallace, 2025) is a simplification of ~1K yrs of history through the fortunes of 4 clans. It incentivizes historically accurate play, e.g. send citizens to conquer provinces to gain $ & stone to build buildings to quench urban unrest. #Ancientsky #AIMS
Each player's individual game board, with their buildings, citizens (no slaves, at least officially - a common but problematic erasure in historical game models), wheat, and stone, as well as provinces (not shown). A closeup of the main gameboard, featuring the 7 hllls of Rome, each of which you can influence and build buildings into, as well as the leaders you can gain for each era. In this era, the Principate, the options are Trajan, Hadrian, Augustus, and Diocletian, each with different abilities. This also show the "unrest" track; if your piece, like green here, ends the game at the top of the unrest track, you automatically lose. The full board, wtith all seven hills of Rome and an image of some of the players' individual gameboards.

One really nice long-term advantage of online conferences is that questioners have a chance to really think about and fine-tune their questions and the moderator has the opportunity to balance questions among the participants in a panel more consciously and directly.
