In 1989 Clive Emsley and Ian Bridgeman surveyed the private archives of police force across England and Wales. Their report makes for intriguing reading. I feel it's a story half told so I'm copying their data onto a spreadsheet. It's a labour of love - I'll keep you posted! #historians #archives

Amazing news. Personally, as an autistic historian, archives are pretty much my favourite place to work. BUT figuring out all the rules and accessibility for a new archive is undeniably stressful and I always have a meltdown after I've been to a new one.
