That’s been my question: if companies are using AI to replace junior devs, where are the senior devs going to come from.

I know this is clearly ridiculous but it truly freaks me out that my kids are going to grow up with a material number of children who have been raised by chatbot-dads and I have absolutely no idea how to prepare them for how to deal with that (or how I prepare to deal with that).

cool use case of chatgpt work i heard last night:
connect your family calendars and explain your kids'
interests.
every morning for the drive to school, have it make a
podcast that talks about one kid's soccer game that
afternoon, one kid's upcoming birthday, some news,
etc.

As folks gear up for the new semester, a reminder if anyone needs it, my Ai statement is available for people to make use of in their own materials. It’s downloadable and printable from my site here spinweaveandcut.com/fall-2025-sy...
a snippet of a mini-comic, at top - straight line stretches from point A to B. Immediately below, same dot at A, then becomes a curving, meandering line that winds through the page and ends at a point with rays and a question mark emanating from it. Text reads: "Nothing can do this for you - for that robs you of experience and conflates answers with learning. Rather, it's all the decisions you make along the way, the mistakes, struggles, and surprises! These pathways you create - this is learning.

"Theatre kid" is tossed around by right-wingers, and I want to say: - I wasn't a theatre kid. - I have a theatre kid, they're great. So are their friends. - If you have a problem with theatre kids you should look into your heart to see why or crawl back into your hole and die. Either's fine by me.

The difference in utility between the use of ML to tackle big data problems that would otherwise be intractable & the use of LLMs to produce pointless slop is so large they cannot both be usefully described as “AI“. The first is making real progress, the second is dragging us towards the abyss.

So, Trump wants to make the MMR vaccine into three vaccines? Let’s see, three separate trips to the pediatrician, three copays, more missed work, and more missed appointments, leaving kids not fully protected from measles, mumps and rubella. None of it supported by scientific evidence.

Great piece from @ghostpanther.bsky.social. I was particularly struck by this graph, which contains so much information about the past five years in it.
" I asked the people at my nonprofit media studio, Yellow Dot, to create a graph with two data points: mentions of climate on U.S. broadcast news and recent spiking global warming numbers. And this is what they sent me"

The graph shows a steady decline of minutes on ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX since 2022 with the "temperature anomaly" rising from that period, only declining moderately from 2024 to 2025 (but well above the 2021 position)

“How much is a magical world worth?” A beautiful thread about Cabo Verde, the Peace Corps, and the World Cup:
Jill Tucker
@jilltucker
X.com
If you ever doubt how magical this world is, one day you will decide to go to a World Cup watch party in Oakland that you found online to root for a country where you spent two years trying to coax English out of the mouths of Cape Verdean teenagers. 1/7

And at the watch party you will ask the organizer if he's from Cape Verde. He will say yes, from Praia. And you'll say oh! I lived there for two years. I was a teacher. And he will ask, "What's your name?" You will tell him and he will say,
"You were my teacher."
CABO VERDE
11:43 AM • 6/25/26 • 92K ViewsJill Tucker @jilltucker • 20h
And across 30+ years and 6,000 miles you will hug a now man who tried to find you and remembered the songs you taught him and his classmates and he will apologize for how badly behaved they all were. And you will laugh and try not to cry and gape in wonder at at this crazy world.

Jill Tucker
@jilltucker

You will remember how much you love the World Cup. And what the Peace Corps meant to you. What those students, 40 to a class with no glass on the windows, meant to you.
11:43 AM • 6/25/26 • 62K ViewsJill Tucker @jilltucker • 20h
Ivan, the grown man with a touch of grey in his beard, will tell you later he has struggled to describe what it meant to him to meet again - that he shared our photo with classmates.
And when he returns from watching the Cabo Verde game, we will try to find the words together.

Jill Tucker @jilltucker • 20h And then you read that the US
House of Representatives will vote a day before that game on an amendment to eliminate the Peace Corps, which costs 1/6 the price of the Tomahawk missiles the US used in the war on Iran.

Jill Tucker @jilltucker •20h And you wonder: How much is a magical world worth?

2. Because #measles is so infectious, 95% of people need to be vaccinated or immune to stop it from spreading. That is not the situation on the ground in most parts of the US right now. This map shows vaccination uptake rates in kindergartners. Green means 95% plus. Not much green on this map.

One issue with machine learning is that algorithms can identify patterns, but not mechanisms. It’s statistical pattern matching, which can be powerful in many applications, but ultimately identifies correlation, not causation.
