After the Lowe thing they were quoted in a CTV article that they more or less just let the candidates be themselves.

The short answer is she embodies the idea that the good is the enemy of the perfect. Her housing experience is mainly in tenant rights which leads to very status quo ideas.

This is a tough election for pro-housing voters—we don't even have 10 good council candidates, let alone a solid mayor choice. But here's what I can say: please do NOT vote for Stephanie Smith (Green). She consistently opposes the pro-housing movement and will only set the city back.

I voted (birthday edition). Held my nose and picked Pete Fry. Voted OneCity plus Sean Orr, plus Amor Valor and Jessica Walton on council. Next time would be nice to have 10 pro housing candidates.

I know I'm deeply biased but I genuinely think OneCity has the best candidates. Like every single one is excellent. I was impressed by some of the other parties' candidates, but no one has a full slate as strong as OneCity does.

Manchester City found guilty of breaking Premier League’s financial fair play rules
* City face sanctions after more than 100 rule breaches * Club insists it is innocent and is expected to appeal Manchester City face substantial sanctions from the Premier League after an independent panel found they had acted in bad faith and broken numerous rules over financial fair play. The Premier League did not issue a statement but sources confirmed to the Guardian that City had been found guilty on almost all of more than 100 charges. City are surprised at the timing of the news because they say the process is ongoing. It is understood the club intend to appeal against a guilty verdict, confident of winning. Continue reading...

What comes after the Villages Plan? There's a lot we can/should do city-wide in our R1 zones. * Allow strata lane houses * Allow more plex units per lot (on big lots) * Allow corner stores * Allow smaller lots * Allow Accessory Commercial Units * Allow 'Affordable-Ownership' Small Apt. Buildings
12 unit small lot apartment building, 50x122, 1.6 FSR.
We could allow this citywide, for rental and non market ownership in our R1 plex zones.

I urge everyone to vote OneCity across the board, but especially for School Board. No other party has put forward a slate this experienced. VSB schools have seen brutal cuts in services and an apalling lack of open engagement at the board level. Schools, teachers and our kids deserve better.

Glad to have had the opportunity to say this: Pete Fry would be a bad mayor. I believe in judging politicians on their record, not their vague vibes. And Fry's record on housing, active transportation, and more is BAD. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
“Whether you want to look at it as status quo-oriented or as conflict-averse, Fry is a person who, judging him by his actual voting record, has time and time refused to take bold stances on really anything,” argued Peter Waldkirch, a housing advocate and longtime critic of Fry.

Waldkirch ran for a OneCity council nomination this year, and stressed he was only representing himself in his characterization.

At the same time, his argument mirrored what many OneCity supporters have said both on social media and off the record: that Fry doesn’t support building enough new housing — his opposition to the defeated Villages Plan the most recent example — and isn’t decisive enough on big issues to earn their support.

“Time and time again, Pete Fry has been a vote against housing, against bike lanes, and for the status quo,” said Waldkirch.

Soapbox moment: sidewalks matter. Like, a lot. Even in Vancouver, we have a long way to go to upgrade sidewalks so everyone can get around. @womentcities.bsky.social's Our City Hall campaign rules and you should read their stuff. Here's a highlight: www.womentransformingcities.org/ourcityhall
"I use a mobility scooter and a lot of
the city's sidewalks have huge
cracks where the roots of trees are
coming up out of the concrete. I
have to turn around and try to find
an alternative route… Not every
sidewalk has a curb cut, so I have to
drive my scooter on the road."
