Back when I wrote Lost Lanes North, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park was free to enter if you arrived by bike (or on foot or public transport). If you arrived by car, you had to pay a parking fee. Today, car parking is free, and all visitors pay the same entry fee.

New sock day! I don’t know any company that stands by their products like Darn Tough. Most lifetime warranties exclude ‘normal wear and tear’ but if you wear out these sock they’ll send a new pair, as I can confirm. Also insanely comfortable.

Some views from a visit to Uffington yesterday. Actually clouds in the sky this time. #HillfortsWednesday
A colour photo looking east along the top of the inner bank of the hillfort, showing a worn path with rough parched grass on either side. The ground slopes away quite steeply to the right and less so to the hillfort's interior on the left. A colour photo showing the Ordnance Survey trig pillar on top of the bank of the hillfort. The surrounding ground is heavily worn and largely devoid of the rough light brown grass that otherwise covers the area.A view looking towards the hillfort from the path leading from the main car park. Right of centre in the foreground is a large Amazon Prime lorry taking up a sizeable chunk of the smaller car park intended for disabled visitors. The lorry was there when I arrived at about 10.45 a.m. and still there when I left at about 15.45.

And grey lazy Sundays, strangely I find myself thinking about those standing stones in museum collections... surely they are happier in the landscape, moss and lichen, birds perching. Changing light & seasons, glowing with sunrise. Or perhaps that's just us? #standingstonesunday #archaeology
Standing stone in corridor of museum, images manipulated so contrast of grey green mood allows rock art carvings to stand out more. Series of wavy lines and two large cup and ring mark motifs. Large cup and ring, spiral like, motifs. With splash of pale red added digitally as if to evoke a low sun

A black and white photo of a statue of Jacob Van Artevelde standing in Vrijdagmarkt in Gent.

The day woke with a flat grey sky and although chairs and tables have been placed outside of cafés there are only a couple of people visible in the frame, suggesting early morning. The trees are not fully in leaf, suggesting mid-Spring. Seven pigeons wander about near the base of the statue, searching hopefully for scraps of food dropped the previous evening.

I used to live a couple of hundred metres from the Thames just south of Oxford. It was a popular place for stolen mopeds to be dumped and set alight after being joyridden. #blackandwhite #filmisnotdead #tri-x
A black and white photograph. To the right of frame are stacked some ruined mopeds. They have no tyres and appear to have been set on fire. They are leaning against a metal-railing gate with metal fish, which is itself leaning against a brick wall with graffiti on it. There is also a shopping trolley.

To the left of frame a gravel path weaves its way into the distance, reaching a metal-railing fence. Beyond the fence lies a meadow, although it can barely be perceived due to the misty weather. The shadows of a line of trees can be seen in the distance.
