In 2025, all European glacier regions saw a net mass loss, with Iceland recording its 2nd‑largest loss since 1976. It was the 4th year in a row that all 19 global glacier regions lost mass. More insight in #ESOTC2025 from #Copernicus Climate @ecmwf.int and @wmo-global.bsky.social ⬇️ #ClimateData

A reminder to the news media: “conflicting accounts” is what you say BEFORE the incontrovertible video evidence appears. After that, your job is to ask why one side is lying, not to repeat the lie and pretend no one knows the truth.

2026 is seeing that the U.S. Army is mobilizing a unit specialized for winter conditions, but not knowing if the intended mission is violent repression of an American city or stealing territory from a U.S. treaty ally.

✍️ New article: “Foreign aid from the United States saved millions of lives each year” For decades, these aid programs received bipartisan support and made a difference. Cutting them will cost lives.
A bar chart illustrates the estimated lives saved each year by various American foreign aid programs, totaling approximately 3.3 million lives saved annually. The programs listed from top to bottom include:

- HIV/AIDS: 1.6 million lives saved per year
- Humanitarian aid: 550,000 lives saved per year
- Vaccines: 500,000 lives saved per year
- Tuberculosis: 310,000 lives saved per year
- Malaria: 290,000 lives saved per year

At the bottom, a note indicates that the figures represent central estimates and that actual estimates may range from 2.3 to 5.6 million lives saved. It clarifies that these numbers do not encompass other vital forms of aid such as water and sanitation, nutrition, and family planning. The source of the data is credited to Kenny & Sandefur, 2025. One accurate way of understanding this is that online extremists have direct contacts with the head of the FBI, who will fire the FBI agents they identify, even though it is against the law. Any principled agents who resist will also be fired. Same pattern holds broadly across lots of the govt
On Aug. 4, Patel directed Driscoll to fire Meyer, sources told CBS News. When Driscoll asked on what grounds, he did not get what he considered a satisfactory answer from Patel, according to the source. Without it, Driscoll refused. Two days later, on Aug. 6, Driscoll was contacted by J. William Rivers, the No. 3 official at the FBI, and told he was being terminated, the source said. He was given no reason why but later received a letter formally notifying him that he was being fired.

Around the same time, Jensen was also relieved of his duties. A source with knowledge of that matter said it was because he, too, refused to fire a subordinate agent in the Washington Field Office, though CBS News was not able to identify the person. Walter Giardina, a WFO agent who was also dismissed in the purge, had worked on a number of cases involving Mr. Trump and other members of his administration, including the prosecution of senior Trump aide Peter Navarro for contempt of Congress.

One of the best ways to cripple Russia’s ambitions longterm would be to moonshot renewables development then spread the tech everywhere super-cheap. Russia produces nothing of significance beyond oil and gas. The economy would tank. Plus a huge win in the fight against the climate crisis.

In 2004, it took the world a year to add a gigawatt of solar power — now it takes a day
A line graph depicting the average number of days it took to install a gigawatt of solar energy capacity worldwide from 2001 to 2023. The vertical axis represents the number of days on a logarithmic scale, spanning from 1 to 1000 days. The horizontal axis indicates the years from 2001 to 2023.

In 2004, the average time was about 1 year, which is marked on the graph. A downward trend shows significant decreases in installation time over the years. By 2010, it took under 30 days, and by 2015, just over 7 days. The most notable point is in 2023, where it dropped to about 1 day on average for installation.

The data source is attributed to IRENA (2024), with calculation by Our World in Data, and the chart is identified as CC BY, indicating it is licensed for sharing and adaptation with appropriate credit.

This is indeed one of the most fundamental things about Renewables. Once you build them, they work without you shipping many times their weight in to burn. Despite this, people complain about the miniscule amount mined per kwh from renewables, fully ignoring the tons of CO2 that would be prevented
