Happy #FlyDay #SEO #ShortEaredOwl #BirdsInFlight #ECK #BirdOfTheDay #Owll Hoping for a good year for the Shorties 🦉🤞 2025 was a disappointment, so fingers crossed for plenty more sightings this winter. This one from 2024. 📷
A Short-eared Owl flies low over a rough grassland field, its broad wings fully extended and striking yellow eye clearly visible. Its mottled brown and cream plumage blends with the muted winter vegetation in the background.

An October hiking memory... ☀️ 🌳 🥾 Photo: Goyt Valley, 2 October 2019 #ForestFriday #Trees #Nature #OnThisDay #Memories #Throwback #Hiking #PeakDistrict #LandscapePhotography #WoodlandWednesday #ECK #EastCoastKin
Portrait-oriented, 4:3 photo.

A woodland scene. A tree on a steep hillside, which slopes upwards from the bottom right corner towards the left of the frame.

The tree is in tge centre of the frame and has a gnarly trunk, which curves out towards the right and then back to the left before growing upwards in a wavy fashion.

Almost all of the tree's side branches are growing towards the left hand side of the frame, giving it an air of striking a flamboyant pose.

The background is mostly foliage from other trees, the sun shining brightly through their leaves from behind. The central tree is dark against this illuminated backdrop.

There is a patch of cloudless, bright blue sky visible in the top left of the picture.

Today's Bird of the Day theme is "Best Beaks" I'm going with this Whimbrel in Arrecife in January 2020. #BirdOfTheDay #BestBeaks #WaderWednesday #BirdsOfBluesky #Nature #Wildlife #WildlifePhotography #ECK #EastCoastKin
Portrait-oriented, 3:2 image.

A brown and buff patterned wader on a sandy shoreline. It has distinct dark bands on the crown of its head, separated by a pronounced, central light stripe. Light bands can be made out on the sides of its head too.

The bird is facing the camera with the water's edge behind it. Its head is pointed down and its long, dark beak is probing for food at the base of a rock on the left. Because it is leaning downwards there is a clear view of the plumage along its back which is very slightly tilted towards the viewer.

Sea wall 🌊 Photo: Strandhill, Sligo #WallsOnWednesday #WednesdayWalls #TidesOutTuesday #RockinTuesday #Scape #Seascape #ECK #EastCoastKin #WildAtlanticWay #Sligo #Ireland
Landscape oriented, 16:9 photo.

View along the top of a concrete sea wall on the right. It extends in a straight line from the foreground towards the right hand side of the frame before turning at a slight angle back inwards. It turns once more in the distance, again at an angle and again following a straight line rather than curving. There is a footpath on the right that follows the course of the wall.

There are large, grey rocks resting up against the left hand side of the wall, placed there to reinforce the sea defences.

Below these to the left is a beach at low tide. This is a mixture of sand and rocks in the foreground but further out towards the sea the sand gives way to exposed rock and seaweed that are usually underwater.

Blue sky with a few light, white clouds. The scene is brightly lit by the sun.

Lighting up time. 🌅 Photo: Brighton, November 2013 #BlueSkyArtShow #Lights #UrbanGaze #Travel #ECK #EastCoastKin
Landscape oriented, 5:4 photo.

Two nineteenth century, cast-iron standard street lamp posts, each with a pair of pendant lights. The tops of the standards are marked by ornate, decorative moulding. The lights are on.

Between the lamp posts are two strings of modern lights, one string above the other. These small bulbs are larger than fairy lights but provide the same effect. The strings also extend outwards from the posts and disappear outwith the edges of the frame.

It is twilight. The background is mostly clear sky and the cast iron posts are silhouetted against this golden background. There is a large band of dark grey cloud extending horizontally from the top right corner of the frame.

Left hand side of the frame: a wooden fingerpost with two pointers, each with the words "Pennine Bridleway" on it. The post stands on a grass-covered embankment that runs alongside a dry stone wall.

There is a farm track in the foreground on the right hand side of the frame. This meets a crossroads of tracks between fields, also on the right hand side of the scene.
