Across the first year, babies' airways shift from a Staphylococcus aureus–dominated state to a Moraxella catarrhalis–enriched one by 12 months. S. aureus likely comes from mum, M. catarrhalis expands as infants meet more people. Dynamics differ by strain. 4/7
