Just spoke to a lovely couple from Dallas who is visiting Minneapolis to pay their respects to Alex, Renee, George, and the people of Minneapolis who stood up against ICE. The shared how much it means to see a community come together and support on another like we did this winter.

Some of my colleagues on the council are saying that the Minneapolis Police Department should be allowed to overspend their budget so 9 people can travel to accept an award. We are trying to convince them they should only spend within their gifted amount of $16,000 so no taxpayer dollars are used.

Tonight at our Board of Estimate & Taxation meeting we deadlocked on deciding the maximum levy for the City and the Parks. I voted in full support of the park board’s levy request and the city’s request throughout every single amendment brought forward, but we could not find consensus on that.

Major hubs in our park system, like the chain of lakes, have seasonal portable restrooms that are often expensive to upkeep and routinely vandalized due to their impermanent nature. Perhaps this system of public restrooms could be a welcomed alternative. What do you think? 🤔

Difference between what Mayor Frey has proposed and Park Board's ask is $14/year, says MPRB superintendent Al Bangoura. "Our responsibility does not end when the ribbon is cut." They have to maintain and program. Mayor's budget would mean significant service reduction.

Please read and sign on to this open letter calling for the stepping down or removal of Latonya Reeves for malfeasance, per Article 7 of the DFL Constitution and Bylaws. SIGN HERE: forms.gle/UjsMCUrRWKKj...
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

On May 9th, after Latonya Reeves withdrew from seeking the endorsement, the convention of delegates in Congressional District 5 endorsed incumbent Representative Ilhan Omar. Representative Omar is the duly endorsed DFL candidate.

Section 7 of the DFL Constitution and Bylaws states:

An endorsement requires the State DFL Party, all DFL Party units, all individuals elected or appointed to positions within the DFL Party, and all paid DFL Party staff to support a candidate for public office in public statements and in the execution of any party duties. Failure to satisfy this requirement constitutes nonfeasance.

An endorsement also prohibits the above DFL individuals and entities, as well as DFL-endorsed candidates, from providing support to candidates running against DFL-endorsed candidates. This prohibition extends to support for any position on a Public Ballot Question contrary to a DFL-endorsed position. Support under this section may include, but is not limited to, direct voter contact, donations and participation in fundraising activities, public or widely distributed statements of support, and distribution of campaign materials. Actions that violate this prohibition constitute malfeasance.

Ms. Reeves is continuing her campaign against Ilhan Omar, seeking to continue into the primary.

Ms. Reeves also holds multiple positions within the DFL, including but not limited to membership in the Democratic National Committee as a delegate for Minnesota. This membership is something she touts on her website:

"I'm running because we need leadership that will get the job done. As a member of the DNC I work hard to empower disaffected and disenfranchised voters across all demographics, encourage and support them to recognize their potential, and work towards finding energized Democrats to run for office. MAGA legislators are attempting to take away voting rights of millions of marginalized people just so they can stay in power.

A city’s success should be judged by how well our most vulnerable residents are doing– not reduced to just the size of the tax base. Proclaiming we need to get "back to the basics" means nothing when our neighbors can't afford their rent or are being chased from block to block by encampment sweeps.

$40 million could be spent in a myriad of ways in our city to effectuate better outcomes than this training facility. A massive investment in public housing would help our city’s outcomes for low- and no-income families. Investment in free childcare and elder care. The ideas are so numerous.

If Mayor Frey acted on his promise to “end homelessness in 5 years” when he was first elected, these orgs maybe would have adequate resources to speak positively on “Pause evictions, save lives”. The mayor’s inaction has ripple effects, and we know where his allegiance lies.
