I just fell down a 90 minute local government rabbit hole learning about the cities of chino and chino hills (guess what makes them different!), their councils, and especially this school board. Their school board politics over the last decade is some of the worst I’ve ever seen, ever.

This, my friends, is a superb use of taxpayer money and police resources. So glad that Norm is home safe. We have zero tolerance for dognapping and dog extortion in Sunnyvale. www.cbsnews.com/amp/sanfrancisco/ne…

I hope bluesky never allows GIFs. I don’t want to discuss how to pronounce GIF ever again. I DO want to see everyone continue to post from their deep meme stash.

You can turn your beige suburbs into vibrant neighborhoods and communities. It feels REALLY good. Run for city council. I’ll help you.

Tonight, after FOUR years of planning, pre-meetings and study sessions, my city council will hear and approve (or not) the Moffett Park Specific Plan. The plan seeks to turn a big, ancient office park into 20k units of housing (15-20% below market) in a vibrant mixed use, walkable district.

I received the email written about in this article today directly from Mr. Rapport, with, inexplicably, @richardm.bsky.social cc’ed. what isn’t mentioned in this little write up is his references to the “Colorado and Arizona Cannibal Wars”, something I’d like to learn more about actually.

I also want to mention that I rescued another shitposter from the dying or dead inside social medias. @dejezeus.bsky.social and I have been friends for at least a decade and so I can vouch for his shitposting capabilities. Being an adjunct history professor has only honed his craft. Please welcome.

I’m such a little black rain cloud over on threads. I have no idea why all of these people want meta to control a main source of breaking news and serious information. I say let them stay in their ad revenue lane.

I really appreciate the thoughtful consideration the team is giving to being a place where journalism and high quality info can be spread and shared effectively. But I still don’t understand why bluesky doesn’t have a trust and safety lead yet.

Relevant @xkcd.com:
An XKCD comic of two stick figures talking. One stick figure is sitting at a desk with a computer and the other is standing behind them. Text as follows:

Person 1: WHEN A USER TAKES A PHOTO, THE APP SHOULD CHECK WHETHER THEY'RE IN A NATIONAL PARK...
Person 2: SURE, EASY GIS LOOKUP. GIMME A FEW HOURS.
Person 1: ...AND CHECK WHETHER THE PHOTO IS OF A BIRD.
Person 2: I'LL NEED A RESEARCH TEAM AND FIVE YEARS.
Caption: IN CS, IT CAN BE HARD TO EXPLAIN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE EASY AND THE VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE.

Brand accounts adopting weird/edgy personas are tiresome. It takes something truly shocking to impress me. The wretched owl account impressed me.

Copenhagen has a fantastic international food scene, lots of variety. But the best bite of food I had in my entire Europe trip was the smørrebrod served at Aamann’s Deli and Takeaway. The lentil mushroom was, surprisingly, the standout against the smoked salmon and fried whitefish.

I promised to report back on the (allegedly) excellent Mexican food at Sanchez in Copenhagen. And as promised, I took my homemade carnitas maker dad (and my goofball 15 y/o brother) to try their carnitas. It was… not “good by California standards” as advertised unfortunately.

I just need to tell you that Tivoli Gardens is the greatest amusement park in the world. I like the ride where I get to drink alcoholic spritzes and lounge in comfortable chairs on the grass all afternoon. Also, they did decent SF style burritos

The apartments are just so beautiful in Copenhagen.
An apartment building completely covered in greenery except the doors and windows. The effect is calming and awe inspiring.

Ok so here’s a weird ass thing I witnessed. APPARENTLY, graduating high school seniors rent out massive open top busses to play loud music and scream from the entire weekend after they graduate. They get wasted and create increasingly obscene banners to hang from the busses. I hated their joy.

The urbanism in Copenhagen is incredible. Just incredible. You don’t get anything better than this in the world. Don’t let your municipalities tell you that this isn’t possible because I’ve seen it with my own eyes.
My view of building rooftops, an electric garbage truck, tree lined city streets, and new construction in the Vesterbro neighborhood in CopenhagenThree minute headways on copenhagen public transit, as displayed on a sign in a beautifully designed metro subway station. The Fredricksberg metro stop in Copenhagen. Specifically, the escalator going up toward the street level with green tile of various shades adorning the walls of the station, creating a stunning visual effect.

When we first got to Copenhagen it was unseasonably fucking hot. It SAID it was only around 75f, but with the canal humidity I could have died. This pic was 4am from our fourth floor airbnb somewhere between the Vesterbro and Fredricksberg neighborhoods, highly recommend staying there.

My favorite adaptive behavior is that whenever I’m packing or doing something with lots of steps I make many very detailed lists with lots of colorful highlighters and pens. I can go back and edit the lists to take out all of the random nonsense and actually just not pack those things.

Pleased to announce that Hellthread’s Dad (my dad) of carnitas recipe fame will feature in my Copenhagen and Berlin posting! It is, in part, his Father’s Day trip with 5 out of 8 of his kids/grandkids. He does little international travel so dad shenanigans will be off the charts.

I enjoy using my extensive knowledge of local government to help people strategize on how to solve their hometown/neighborhood problems all over the country. It’s happened multiple times on here. I used to lobby in the state/federal government and it’s not nearly, nearly as fun as this.
