Poem reading:

Revolution

Those who crown the king
rule the world
while those below suffer
at the whims of evil
and the smug disregard of apathy

So we must
walk the bloody road
breathe the fire of hope
and bind our wounds
until we can fight again

We will not kiss the ring
of those who mean us harm

Instead
we weep over our own graves
and swear to Death
we are still alive

The five Platonic Solids (a green isocahedron, a yellow tetrahedron, a blue octahedron, an orange cube, and a red dodecahedron) which arranged on a surface roughly in a ring. Each solid has a drawn expression on one face and a speech bubble on an adjacent face. Read around the ring from the left they say ‘Maybe it will happen today’

My poem 'Liminal,' published by @bluevillamag in 2024. I’ve always thought ‘liminal’ was a beautiful word: “Occupying a position at, or on both sides, of a boundary.” I feel like most of my life has been spent in that space. You can find links to this and my other pieces at allisonwaltersluther.com
Dark background with blurred white flowers. Poem reads:
Liminal

Mourn by day
Weep by night
For the things you’ve given
And no one returns
As you teeter on the sharpest edge

Black and white digital ink illustration with halftone shading on a toned paper background. A cute lil grim reaper, big head and cartoon proportions, with little feathery wings, holding an outsize scythe behind its back and coyly placing one bony finger where its lips would have been. Lil Grimmy is hovering a bit in the air and just below is a small fluffy kitten looking up (all cats can see Death) and in a speech balloon saying ‘Maybe it will happen today’.

Closed businesses on rainy street. Poem reads:
Bourbon and Wet Pavement

Bourbon and wet pavement
	where hope still shines
among the debris of the living
cast aside like so many trinkets
			thrown in hope and prayer

And non-believers can fall in love
	in the night
		with the night
			just for a night
				filled with laughter

Despite the soldiers in the shadows
	snarling in pain and desperation
		music still plays on
			louder than the fear

It’s odd. You have a chunk of the line of succession gathered at one event, and no IDs are required. Identification was not needed to enter the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Only a ticket was required to get into the ballroom. Nowhere in the hotel was an ID necessary.

'Sepia' published by @bluevillamag in 2024. I've included it in my Colo(u)rs series, tho the case could be made ‘sepia’ is not necessarily a color as such. Per an editor friend: "'Sepia' is a sadness I wish I didn't relate so much to." Find links to the rest of my works at allisonwaltersluther.com
Poem on sepia background:
Sepia

Sepia is the color of nightmares
	That have lost their horror
And their sharp edges have dulled
So when they scratch you
	You no longer bleed

Sepia is the color of dreams
	Long since dead
	Colors fading until
You can almost remember
	What happiness was

Sepia is the color of memories
	Cobwebs swirling in
	Hurricanes
Always just out of reach
	Like peace

Sepia is the color of loss
	Times of nevermore
	In raven sharp form
With the pain of knowing
	But not forgiveness

YEARNING. Published by Blue Villa Magazine in 2024. I love the silence in the world after a snowfall, don't you? Come see this and my other works at allisonwaltersluther.com.
Light blue background with white daises and blue heart. Text is a poem called 'Yearning'.
The storm raged its last breath
In the night
Leaving the world muffled
In the fuzzy light shimmering
Through the light blue curtains
With hopeful white daisies

No sound from outside
No wind
No birdsong
No humanity
Everything muted
As if reality has
Fallen out of existence

The air has a heaviness
Of light, not weight
Both winsome and strong
As so often happens
In the silence of snow
When every creature
Holds its breath
In awe

The warmth of the bed clings
Its light blue comforter
With hopeful white daisies
Like an extra skin over
The lovers
Fingers trailing as
They wish
Swept up in the sound
Of two hearts beating
With the promise
Of a new day

My poem, 'Forgotten,' published by @bluevilla.org in 2024. Find links to my other works at allisonwaltersluther.com.
Monotone pic of beach. Poem:
Forgotten

Days, weeks, months, years
            washed by anguish and
                        made of sea-swept salt
                                    until the edges are both
                                                silk and razor

Each memory different from the others
            when you lean in close,
                        eyes wide and searching
                                    but as you move away
                                                through time and life
                                                            they are all the same

Remembered only with the greatest effort
            lost more often than found
                        smaller than grains of sand
                                    and just as infinite

How many hourglasses of time
did it take to build the dunes
                         where the memories lay
                                     forgotten?

A digital illustration of the Yipyips from Sesame Street. They are essentially just fabric tubes with mouths that are either widely agape or closed into a huge underbite, with ping pong ball eyes and curly deelybopper antennae. In the left is a blue one, agape. On the right a pinkish-orange one, underbitten. Between them is an antique radio: wooden in a pointed arch shape with two dials and a lit tuning indicator. Most of the front of the radio is a fabric covered speaker protected by a decorative wooden grille part of which is in the form of lettering reading ‘Maybe it will happen today’.

When the voices of ghosts
	who walk the halls echo
And whispers come from dark corners
	of empty rooms
Memories obscured by
curtains of mist hang at dusk
long after all the leaves have fallen
Haunted by those we cannot remember
and those we wish we could forget
Like a metronome that skips a beat
so do we skip faded heartbeats
When everything is
