A little bear carved from amber some 6,000+ years ago! 🐻❤️ A hole through the torso suggests it was worn or suspended from a cord. National Museum in Szczecin, Poland 📷 by me #Archaeology
My photo shows a small figurine of a bear carved and polished out of a piece of amber between 9600 and 4100 BC. The amber is a deep translucent orange in colour which is emphasised by the display lighting against a dark background which makes the amber glow. The bear's head is carved to show ears, mouth, nostrils and eyes. A hole runs through the bear's torso, suggesting it was threaded onto a cord. Dimensions:
Length 10.2 cm, Height 4.2cm

I took this photo today at the Landesmuseum Halle in Germany where the bear is currently on loan from Poland for the excellent Shamaness exhibition.

The figurine was discovered in Stupsk during peat mining in 1887. According to the National Museum in Szczecin "Shortly after its discovery, the figure underwent conservation work to restore its original appearance as it was covered with a layer of dull patina from the exposure to the minerals contained in the peat. Already at that time, at the end of the 19th century, it was assumed the restoration had gone too far. The figure was stripped entirely of patina, the anatomical features of the animal were emphasised, the eyes and nostrils were sharply drawn, and the amber was carefully polished".

In 2013, a competition was organised by the Education Department of the National Museum in Szczecin, for children to choose a name for the bear. The winning name was 'Stupcio', an affectionate diminutive meaning 'little guy from Stupsk'.

The 34-year old Japanese artist @lito_leafart has been living with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) his entire life. He discovered the Japanese art of kirie (切り絵, literally ‘cut picture’) and began experimenting, not with paper, but with leaves.
Created by Japanese artist Lito (@lito_leafart), this intricate piece of leaf-carving art (kirie) transforms a single green leaf into a whimsical aquarium scene.

Held up against a bright sky, the carved leaf depicts a group of visitors silhouetted along the bottom edge, gazing up into a vast underwater view. Above them swims a massive whale shark accompanied by a school of smaller fish, all meticulously cut out with astounding precision. Lito's creative process harnesses hyper-focus to craft detailed, narrative-driven miniature worlds, turning a natural canvas into a heartwarming piece of visual storytelling.

🟤 More... Favorite photos? 📷 and Art by Artist: #AndersKrisár 🇸🇪 in Loc.: #Seoul Korea 🇰🇷 - Title: "untitled" - #Art #Skulpture #Artist #Fotografie #Photography ➡️ #APhotoLove
Photography and art. A color photograph of a sculpture in an exhibition space in Korea, showing two naked, hairless human figures sitting side by side on a brown block and holding hands. They look a little like 1 meter tall dolls, but the figures are both only half, as if they had each been cut in half. Twins split in half. The object, which is interesting in itself, stands in front of a glass front that reveals a view of green, bushy ferns. This confuses the viewer, as one involuntarily wants to complete the two figures in one's mind, as there are clear cuts between the green, the half-human, the green in between, the next half-human and the green again. Both the sculpture and the photo are thought-provoking and that is... Art.
Medium: Acrylic paint on polyester resin
Info: The Swedish artist Anders Krisár (born 1973) works on contemporary sculptures and photographs. With precision and meticulous craftsmanship, he creates sculptures that explore the human psyche and identity. Objects of simultaneous horror and beauty. The artist exhibits in galleries and exhibitions worldwide.

Four-winged flying fish (tropical oceans) are remarkable they do not actually fly, but instead glide above the water. Using both their enlarged pectoral and pelvic fins, these fish can reach speeds of 70 km/h and sore up to 400meters in this in a single sustained flight to escape predators.

One of the most terrifying images in history: Gaza transformed from life into death. Gaza in 2023 and 2026 💔
Before-and-after aerial comparison of Gaza showing the same urban area in 2023 and 2026. The top image shows a dense coastal city with apartment blocks, roads, a mosque-like building, cars, and a strip of beach under a blue sky. The bottom image shows the area in gray ruins, with collapsed buildings, rubble-filled streets, destroyed infrastructure, and the damaged remains of the same landmark building. The image presents Gaza transformed from a living city into a devastated landscape. UNOSAT and UNESCO have documented widespread damage to buildings and cultural sites in Gaza since October 2023.

Lorca, #poetry by Joseph Fasano. (Federico García Lorca was a Spanish poet assassinated by fascists in 1936.)
Lorca
after Neruda
Because I was a poem, my country hushed me.
They knelt me
on the cold stones of a roadway and even when the guns had touched my body,
I heard the birds, I heard my heart be strong.
Listen. You have to go on without me.
You know what my triumph was, my victory?
I was open. I stayed so wholly open
that I heard the birds and the gift the Spring is singing.
They can kill the singers but they cannot kill the song.
They can kill the singers but they cannot kill the song.

Hasui Kawase "Spring Moon at Ninomiya Beach" (1932) Japanese woodblock print | 39 x 26 cm (15.3 x 10.3 in.) Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. #ArtSky #Kawase
Hasui Kawase
"Spring Moon at Ninomiya Beach" (1932) depicts a solitary figure walking along the edge of the sea under a full moon.
The moonlight is reflected on the water and the crest of a breaking wave, as well as the branches of the pine trees that dominate the right side of the composition.
The palette uses muted shades of green, blue, and black.
Description:
The print is a luminous and atmospheric coastal landscape, a style for which Hasui was well known. It depicts a quiet, moonlit shoreline scene in the shin-hanga ("new prints") style, which blends traditional Japanese subjects with Western-influenced atmospheric effects and natural lighting. A large, dark pine tree frames the right side of the composition, with its branches reaching across the night sky. The full moon is high in the sky, casting shimmering reflections on the ocean water as gentle waves break on the sand. A single, small, silhouetted figure is visible walking along the edge of the sea, emphasizing a sense of solitude and tranquility
