Hello Bone Colleagues,
I have invented a new type of ankle and I'm very excited to show it to you. Early raccoon trials suggest a 60% increase in scurrying speed and dramatic increases in fine motor banditry. I know we are not supposed to create super raccoons, but I think you'll change your mind and professional ethics when you see how cute they are. I believe we are on the cusp of a new era in advanced human scurrying because if medical science has taught me anything, it's that improvements in raccoons correspond 1:1 to improvements in humans.

Watson's dishonesty and nastiness is multifaceted here...“Without further hesitation I implied that she was incompetent in interpreting X-ray pictures” was about A-DNA, but he conflates this with B-DNA (photo 51) to claim the helical insight was his. Wilkins comes off much worse in this light too.

I can’t really believe this is happening in our country. And it makes me very angry people aren’t doing more to stop it. An entire group have had their civil rights gutted, and are having their lives made unliveable (especially children who are most vulnerable). And what’s anyone doing about it?

But changing the system requires systemic work. Hell is other people because other people are *great* but it's *so hard* to get them to do things your way. That takes time and understanding and togetherness and arguing and forgiving.

Voting for Mamdani was important. It got him elected. But staying organized - in unions, neighborhood clubs, affinity groups, DSA chapters and mutual aid groups - is what's letting him get stuff done, and stopping him from bailing on his promises as politically infeasible.

Which is to say, Big P politics matter, but to *make* them matter, we need a lot of small p politics. That means that democracy isn't something you do every couple of years with a ballot paper (though that's an important aspect of the process). Democracy is continuous.

You have to accurately assess the problem to create proper solutions
Screenshot of article which reads: Partisan polarization is not the greatest threat to American democracy.
It is a vivid and identifiable symptom of the real threat. And it is a popu-
lar frame because it blames no one. But because political polarization is
a symptom, and not the root of the problem that ails us, “fixing” polar-
ization will not restore American democratic health.

Finally getting around to studying some old specimens for the first time this #FossilFriday. These eurypterids were discovered in the 1960s and almost certainly represent new species. Discoveries such as this really highlight the importance of museum collections as records of life on our planet. 🧪⚒️
A photograph of a fossil eurypterid on a brown-grey rock. The fossil as a wide, round body with a long abdomen. The head is relatively small and and short legs that are very robust, the last pair of which are big, broad paddles.A fossil of a eurypterid on a brown-grey rock. Slusser’s most consequential purchase may be a set of carved bone regalia worn once a year by a Kusle priest who became a living incarnation of Shiva. After it was stolen, the family couldn't afford new to replace it. The priest didn’t teach his son the mantras. The ritual died.
