Most of us develop gene mutations linked to blood cancer as we age, but only a small proportion go on to develop the disease. New research from @benjaminwerner.bsky.social and team at BCI explores why, showing how mutated cells compete and evolve over time. 🧪 #medsky #oncosky @qmul.bsky.social

Study offers clues to blood cancer risk, revealing how gene mutations compete over time
Researchers have developed a new way to understand how genetic changes linked to blood cancer evolve in our cells, offering new insight into predicting blood cancer risk.

Academics often lament that hardly any master’s projects get published. The student moves on. Other research takes priority. No one has time to do the final analyses. Here I tell how one master’s project was, through persistent teamwork, finally carried over the finish line: go.nature.com/4aKs7N3

Studying cancer evolution needs multi-region or single cell seq for phylogenetics, right? Amazingly (I think!) we found single-sample bulk methylation suffices, via analysis of "fluctuating methylation". In @nature.com today led by brilliant @calumgabbutt.bsky.social www.nature.com/articles/s41...
