the more i think about this the more i feel like it's possibly one of the most outrageous scandals to happen in global politics in a long time. if it is what it looks like it's an absolute watershed crisis moment for the US and world.

Stuff like this is why the Canadian political establishment is (correctly, IMO) assuming that Democrats can NOT be trusted to return the bilateral relationship to the status quo ante going forward.

And it's that Donald Trump is doing a world-historically bad job as President, and that given his extreme stupidity and myriad other character flaws, his benchmark-setting reign of maladministration is nearly certain to continue and even become worse.

I understand why responsible pundits emphasize that polling error can cut both ways and that momentum can shift etc. I just think there's one fundamental that is the single biggest factor in these midterms, which suggests continued upside for Dems, but that a lot of people can't quite say out loud.

It's very silly to ask this question when history ran a smaller test of this hypothetical using just 1935-6 armies and... it did not go especially well for the European army involved

Speeding is down dramatically at five high-risk Minneapolis intersections where the city installed cameras to crack down on lead-footed drivers, but it still remains a big traffic concern.

Cameras operated at five intersections. More locations could be added in 2027 if the city budget allows.

If you missed it at Open Streets, don't miss it here: One habit you can form to reduce your risk of bike theft, and one step you can take right now to drastically improve your odds of getting a stolen bike back. Help us spread the word!

Maybe. But I observe that seasonal cyclists often lock their bikes more securely in winter, or bring it to a basement where theft is unlikely. Also, shared bike rooms in warmer months have more comings and goings, which can be an opportunity for thieves. Peak bike theft season is when it's warm.

It's possible! Regardless of the true number, I'm pretty convinced it's a majority. Just anecdotally, the number of people who tell me they've had bikes stolen from an indoor space is far higher than folks who have had bikes taken from the street. And like cars, bikes spend most of the time parked.

A household that chooses to replace an aging car with an e-bike, for example, might see an estimated savings of $10k/yr. If hundred households make this choice, that represents $1 million in savings that may be more likely to be spent in the local economy instead.

Cities where car ownership is a de facto requirement to participate in economic and civic life are essentially levying a hidden tax on the public. It is so important to build and maintain infrastructure and systems that make it feasible for residents to choose to opt out of these costs.

I think it would be nice if Bluesky woke up to the fact that Ken Martin has largely done what they say they want him to do. But instead it's more fun to get spun by leaks from jilted consultants because it allows you to still hate the DNC and engage in more infighting.
