100 companies are responsible for 71% of global emissions. They told YOU to recycle better while they polluted more. Don't fall for it. Hold systems accountable. #ClimateCrisis

Well, dear reader, we crunched the numbers, and your hunch is right. In fact, it’s probably worse than you think. The data are clear: The open-source culture that defined an earlier era of online journalism has collapsed.

I haven’t seen this get covered in English yet so let me translate. Grok is saying that the crematories at Auschwitz’s were conceived as disinfectant chambers, not mass execution and that the law has made it taboo to acknowledge that this is what they were X is a Nazi site. Get off the Nazi site.

Proprium humani ingenii est odisse quem laeseris (Tac. Agr. 42) "it is human nature to hate whom you have hurt" I think about this quote pretty much every time I read the news these days; mostly because I don't understand it at all, and yet it is clearly true

realistic Star Trek
A comic on the bridge from Star Trek the Next Generation.
Picard: COMMANDER DATA, PLEASE IDENTIFY THAT ROMULAN VESSEL.
Data: THAT'S A GREAT IDEA CAPTAIN!
IDENTIFYING A VESSEL IS A GREAT PLACE TO START - IN ANY TACTICAL OR STRATEGIC OUTER SPACE SITUATION.
THIS VESSEL APPEARS TO BE A 23rd CENTURY KLINGON BIRD OF
PREY! 🚀🦅✨
Picard: ARE YOU SURE?
LIKE I SAID WE'RE... PRETTY SURE IT'S ROMULAN.
Data: ...
Data: OF COURSE! SO SORRY ABOUT THAT, YOU'RE RIGHT!
ON CLOSER EXAMINATION IT'S A ROMULAN VESSEL! CAN I RECOMMEND SOME SOONG™ BRAND PRODUCTS THAT CAN HELP YOU WITH THAT?
Picard cradles his face in his hand in a gesture of frustration.
Data: DID I MENTION THE PLIGHT OF OPRESSED WHITES IN SOUTH AFRICA?

Australia skated through the GFC and missed the class / political realignment that hit the US and Europe in the 2010s. But it looks like the post-Covid economic collapse is about to have a similiar effect. This is an extremely grim chart.

If you are lucky enough to live a long life you’ll also experience living with a disability. It’s unbelievable that it’s only then some people realise what they’ve taken for granted and who the world is built for.

Remembering and thanking Steve Langasek
Steve Langasek is one of my heroes in open source and in life. He epitomises everything that is great about the movement - depth of technical insight, generosity of spirit, rigour in design, care for those who put their trust in us, curiosity about the future and a willingness to do hard work in the face of uncertainty to bring that future into being. Our biggest choices are all about where we spend our time, who we spend it with, and whose lives we hope to improve in the process. Steve shone w...
