Agreed. Although it can be frustrating for people who want to see what is happening in good faith and aren't trying to just stir up more trouble. But as my wife tells me regularly, I cannot expect me from other people; as Twitter showed us, too many people would use it to just harass.

the problem I consistently have with antis is that I agree with a lot of the things they are upset about but then they start entering The Cope Zone and saying that because AI can cause bad things for society that it is also useless/a scam.

Unfortunately, there are serious negatives and risks to AI, and I worry that much of the left by just refusing to acknowledge these systems's capabilities and fast growth, are removing themselves from the serious conversations that need to be had about these systems.

They are. We must not think they aren't, lest we start thinking evil can only happen in "the wrong sort" and never within our own ranks.

There's a lot of valid criticism of AI, but so much of this feels like undiagnosed/undertreated scrupulosity.

Indeed. Generative ai, at least the more egarious versions of it, are only the tip of the spear. Arguably a lot of other technologies and processes than what not we have also cost the planet.

As always, relevant Sad Gay Communist Game quote.
Quote from Joyce Messier reading: "I can't. That's how simple it is. One may dye their hair green and wear their grandma's coat all they want. Capital has the ability to subsume all critiques into itself. Even those who would critique capital end up reinforcing it instead..."

No one is saying they get a pass, just that unfortunately, claiming Israel or affiliates are responsible for bad thing w/out evidence is unfortunately used by bad actors to launder anti-semitism.

Alexengineer @alexengineer10.bsky.social · 08/08/2026
Mm, unfortunately the issue here is a bit more grey than just "bad actors" because unfortunately you do have some people whose criticism of Israel basically just boils down to "Jews", and has commonly been a good way to launder anti-semitic attitudes.

Alexengineer @alexengineer10.bsky.social · 08/08/2026
Sure, but you gotta admit that claiming w/out evidence that an organization associated with Judaism is secretly behind things is going to understandably raise eyebrows.

I'm not confident that the median voter would do something like that. At least not anytime soon. Most people I don't think would. When it comes to politics, you and I are anomalies. Most people were lucky to have them vote in the midterms let alone get involved politically in a serious fashion.

Alexengineer @alexengineer10.bsky.social · 30/07/2026
Yeah but what's the actually viable alternative? I fear that this kind of thinking leads towards "we need to let Trump in to make things bad again so ppl hit the streets" which just feels like another version of accelerationism. There's fair criticism of the dems, but rather have them than trump.

Alexengineer @alexengineer10.bsky.social · 30/07/2026
It wasn't even saying that. It was saying that those people just wanted to tweet about revolution, feel good about it but then do nothing else and have an anxiety attack when they have to make a phone call.

Alexengineer @alexengineer10.bsky.social · 30/07/2026
As for protests. See, I agree that a lot of them are ineffective, I do feel like that they are a good way for people to meet and network and to move on to bigger and better things. Yeah for a lot of people it's going to just be a social media post, but I'm sure many of us got our start at a protest

Yep. We recently had to remove one of those from a group of ours. It was due to other reasons outside of that, but their spicy red liberals viewpoints on things didn't help much with how we viewed their character.

Alexengineer @alexengineer10.bsky.social · 30/07/2026
Could have fooled me with all the chatter I would see online about how voting was completely useless and how only Revolution was the solution while later tweeting about how a phone call gave them anxiety. I do agree that voting is not enough of course.

Yeah this is where it gets complicated for me. Because on one hand, banning people based off of weird vibes might result in someone who's just awkward getting unfairly yeeted. OTOH, the other risk is creating the Nazi bar. It's a shit situation.
