NEW headline voting intention from Ipsos 📊Labour have a 4 point lead, ahead of their Party Conference. 📊Labour (-1), Reform UK (-2) and the Lib Dems (-1) all see a small drop since last month. 📊Whereas the Conservatives (+3) and the Greens (+1) both see a slight increase since August.

Let's talk about money for a second. One of the errors I think Reeves made is not explaining how economic growth will benefit people. It's not that Brits don't see the value in eco growth, they do!, but they're not willing to accept it at any cost (environment, immigration).

Farage's strength is obviously his strong base. All Brits: 23% satisfied Current Reform voters: 81% 2024 Reform voters: 74% I do think Clacton is useful in confirming the strength of this base. As previous by-elections showed Reform's weaknesses

Farage received a strong majority in the Clacton by-election yesterday increasing his total votes from the 2024 election. But public satisfaction with the Reform UK leader has been slowly declining. 🔵June 2025 - 34% satisfied, 49% dissatisfied. 🔵 August 2026 - 23% satisfied, 61% dissatisfied.

3 leaders who inherited a Labour party that few liked (40% when Corbyn took over, 38% once Starmer became LOTO, 30% now). Both Corbyn & Starmer managed to improve the image of the party before it crashed again. Burnham has a similar job, but his 50% liking him is what Starmer was seeing in 2020

New cabinet, new favourability ratings 📊 Burnham is the only Labour politician we polled who has a net positive favourability rating (+1). 2026 leavers Reeves (-41) and Starmer (-30) receive the lowest net ratings.

In Sept '25 Starmer’s satisfaction rating (-66) was worst on Ipsos record going back to 1977. He achieved this in just 438 days. Prior to these results, Major and Sunak shared the spot for the worst with a rating of -59. Latest politics polling 👉 ipsos.com/en-uk/uk-opi...

Burnham commands a significant support base in the North West. He has a net favourability rating of +23 among people in the North West – which is significantly better than the Labour Party’s -30, and Starmer’s -37.

I think reports of Reform's death are greatly exaggerated. But if they want to be a serious party, they need to take candidate selection seriously. S England academic in Midlands, London cllr as Wales leader, relatively inexperienced candidate vs one of the most effective politicians in Britain...

The Covid-19 pandemic did a lot of strange things that I suspect we're still only starting to understand. That one-in-five people supported a general post-10pm curfew for the country, regardless of the pandemic is very interesting. (Credit to @mitchellst.bsky.social for the reminder about this.)

Some context to the social media ban for under 16s. Is there a right age to be on social media? Parents (and the public) converges towards 16-17, but for most under 14 would be too young, while 1 in 5 would not want under 18s on social media. @ipsosintheuk.bsky.social

Andy Burnham is most likely to be seen as having what it takes to be a good PM (28%). 🥇 Farage and Badenoch aren't far behind (both 24%) but Burnham's net rating of 0 is stronger than Farage's -33 and Badenoch's -18.
