A little unexpected shake-up in Tacoma today! During today’s 4.2 magnitude earthquake, some of our aquarium animals were briefly startled, but everyone is safe and doing well. Most guests and staff didn’t feel the earthquake at all.

My mom passed away yesterday after more than two years battling cancer. Hard to find the words to say goodbye, but she was the best mom I could have hoped for and — for 8 years — the coolest grandma around. Thanks for everything, Mom. Love you.

This is insane.
Under a new interpretation of the law’s language outlined in the memo, the accidental killing or injury of an animal would no longer be considered illegal; only actions specifically intending to target an animal would.

The change would be transformative because, in the United States, the killing of endangered animals almost always happens incidentally, in the course of economic activity. Until now, industries and individuals could be held accountable for those foreseeable deaths and, as a result, they have been incentivized to avoid them.

Researchers found that “each year-to-year percent increase in canopy was associated with around a 10 percent reduction in mortality” A .03 percent year-to-year increase in tree cover (roughly, 14,000 new trees) would theoretically result in 105 fewer deaths per year.

City had a couple of moments late in the half, but some very encouraging stuff from Arsenal in terms of how we attack/make chances. Tzolis sharp, Odegaard's craft is so important, Havertz on the scoresheet, Calafiori being the most Calafiori he can be, and what a pass from Myles for the opener!

i don't really think WI-GOV was a polling miss so much as a huge amount of late movement. i'm sure there are things to fix on the polling side too, but like, if I take a picture of my street, and then a week later there are a bunch of new cars parked there, that's not the picture's fault.

The Society of Vertebrate Paleontology mourns the passing of artist, activist, and entrepreneur Sir Sam Neill.

Generations of SVP members found inspiration to become paleontologists through his portrayal of Dr. Alan Grant in the Jurassic Park films. Sam’s portrayal of Dr. Grant brought an incredible humanity, awe, candor, and determination to the scientist-hero in one of the most popular pieces of media ever produced. In the decades since the release of Jurassic Park, Sam’s portrayal created a cultural touchstone for our field the likes of which we may never find again. Whether he knew at the time or not, he became a great friend of the profession of vertebrate paleontology. Our condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. He will be deeply missed.

If this is accurate, even a "Trump says this, but evidence does not support it story" will be insufficient. This speech is part of an explicit threat against democracy, to overturn and control democratic outcomes. If we can't call this out clearly, we are lost.
