That was a jolly nice surprise this afternoon. #crochet #villagecraftfair
My entry into the village craft fair, a crochet spiral jumper in purple and black. The judge has commented that it's perfectly proportional (I'm really not sure that it is!) My eldest saw someone on Tiktok wearing a crocheted spiral jumper and asked me to make one. We couldn't find a pattern so there's been much unravelling and guessing as I've been working it out. In this photo the jumper is folded so you can't see the arms , just the purple and black crochet spiral. The jumper is folded up on a wooden kitchen table.

I'm sure it is a very clear description, to those of us that can read Latin. Which I cannot 👌 Research going well this morning. (Yes I will run it through an online translation thing, which will give me the gist of it at least)
A screencapture of text on my phone, which reads:

Then follows a very clear description of the fever, which was obviously typhus, and he proceeds to give his views on its mode of production in prisons, and its dissemination by means of the county assizes, incidentally referring to the "Black Assizes" at Oxford in 1577, and at Taunton in 1730:*

"Genita haec in carceribus febris, et per comitia provincialia disseminata longe, lateque, plurimos letho dedit, optimaque saepe elusit consilia. ... Cui ignota sunt comitia Oxoniensia, 1577, atque nupera apud Taunton, anno 1730, ubi pestifera mephitis tot tantisque viris mox fuit exitio?

The guy with his back to us is now Bert, but Bert is being operated by Frank Oz, who is crouched down in front of the counter. On Tuesday 29th September I'll be in Barnstaple library, installing a Stitchwort themed display for @librariesunlimited.bsky.social including a model of the ruined tower of Stitchwort (let's hope I get it finished in time!) The display will be in place throughout October and November 🕷️🕸️🎃🕸️🕷️
A former cardboard packing tube (I lost my umbrella at Fantasy Forest in Sudeley Castle in 2025, and they kindly posted it back in this huge, thick cardboard tube that just looked so damned useful I've been tripping over it ever since) I cut it into 3 (for ease of transportation) and I've been dremeling away to get it looking like a ruined tower. Paint next!

BUILDING TRUMP'S SURVEILLANCE STATE
When Anthropic drew a red line, OpenAl crossed it: Trump's Department of War signed a $200 million contract with OpenAl that could lead to Al for domestic mass surveillance and lethal autonomous weapons.
ICE, meanwhile, screens recruits for Trump's deportation force with a hiring tool built on OpenAl's GPT-4.
CREATING EMOTIONAL DEPENDENCE
Nearly 1 in 5 Americans have used Al for romantic companionship. A 64,000-member Reddit community exists for people dating ChatGPT.
When OpenAl released GPT-5 and removed GPT-40, users had full-scale emotional breakdowns.
ADDING ADVERTISEMENTS
OpenAl is preparing to add advertisements to ChatGPT. If they get away with turning the biggest chatbot in the world into marketing slop, other companies will follow.
BETRAYING THEIR MISSION
OpenAl was founded as a nonprofit to make Al for the benefit of all humanity.
They abandoned that goal to make money. So let's hit them in the wallet.BANKROLLING TRUMP & BUYING ELECTIONS
OpenAl's president Greg Brockman was the largest donor to Trump's Super
PAC, MAGA Inc in their latest year-end report, committing $25 million to cozy up to the White House.
OpenAl is the top spender behind a gargantuan $125 million+ Al Super PAC that attacks anyone who threatens to regulate them.
TRIGGERING PSYCHOSIS & BREAKS FROM REALITY
Psychiatrists are documenting "Al psychosis": users losing touch with reality after extended chatbot interactions.
OpenAl estimates ~half a million weekly ChatGPT users show signs of mania or psychosis. Independent testing shows GPT-4o is among the worst models for reinforcing delusions.
COMING FOR OUR JOBS AND OUR CULTURE
OpenAl's stated mission is to create "artificial general intelligence": a machine that is better than every human at any job. They believe they will succeed within 5 years.
It's already reshaping culture. In a survey of 9,000 people from 8 countries, 97% could not tell the difference between Al and human-created music.
DESTROYING THE ENVIRONMENT
OpenAl is lobbying for fast, unregulated expansion of their data centers, no matter how it affects the environment or blows up electricity prices.
