"Increasing investment" is a fascinating way to say "didn't increase funding, banked on upper level funding that never came, and raided the transit reserves" as you can see in this handy graph. The E-Bus pilot launched in 2021, before Mark became Mayor, and the plan was for 450 buses...

The likelihood of something like this happening again in the near future is shockingly low *even* with climate change, and the amount of infrastructure required to mitigate flood levels that are unlikely to be seen for maybe two centuries is quite extravagant

alex 🇨🇦🍉 @alex-is.online · 10/08/2026
The infrastructure is expected to last around a hundred years and was thus only designed to mitigate a "1 in 100 year" flood event (+20% on top of the expected water flow from such an event). The Canada Day flood was a "1 in 250 year" flood event. This was just extraordinarily unlucky

The research I do relies on the bound volumes of the bylaws and minutes of the City of Ottawa, dating back over a century. I’ve spent hours in the Main Branch Ottawa Room with these books (pictured). Sadly, this resource was recently “discarded” by the library. It’s a loss for local history.

This shows the average travel times between Sunnyside/Seneca and Bank/Aylmer on the 7 St Laurent from a few months ago. Can you guess which day it was detoured, and went down Sunnyside instead of Grove?

Something that stuck out during my trip to Vietnam was how many giant thick trees there were on nearly every street and it effectively made it 10 degrees cooler and kept me nearly dry when it was raining. Something I miss quite a lot back here

Its too bad because when I walked through in the fall there was almost no garbage, and has been used as a place to camp out for years. Someone obviously came and ruined it for everyone else, because there was an absurd amount of garbage being collected for seemingly no reason all of a sudden

They probably do. There's been a small number of homeless individuals living on the old tracks there for quite some time, and its not necessarily the most out of sight place around. I'd call 311 about it if I wasn't on the north side of the river

collapse the next week. I can't see how reducing the 1 extra hour of parking limitations in each direction (which was the staff recommendation) to zero hours makes this any more successful at all, especially as a pilot. The existing conditions are virtually identical to this new pilot

alex 🇨🇦🍉 @alex-is.online · 08/04/2026
We wouldn't pilot them, we would just do them anyway. Wellington West had a large number of its parking spaces permanently removed a number of years ago to make space for bus bulb outs, we narrowed a considerable portion of Elgin at the cost of dozens and dozens of parking spaces, and business didnt

Neither is the short extension of the northbound cycle track. The data presented by PWIC delegates and the staff that prepared the report (!) asked for better

With respect councilor, there is hardly anything that has been accomplished here considering now that the time of day bus lanes only take effect during the exact same hrs parking is not permitted anyway. The 24h bus lanes by Fifth almost entirely exist to simply be a visual reminder to not park-

An oft-repeated statistic says men apply for a job when they have 60% of the qualifications while women wait till they have 100%. Pretty sure that stat was debunked, but … Several men seem to think that being Mayor is a suitable starter job for someone with no municipal experience. It’s not.
