An oft-repeated statistic says men apply for a job when they have 60% of the qualifications while women wait till they have 100%. Pretty sure that stat was debunked, but … Several men seem to think that being Mayor is a suitable starter job for someone with no municipal experience. It’s not.

Correct "it's not" as proven by Mark Sutclife, and we are paying for that now. But it does prove that with enough money , influencial backing and poor voter turnout will give you a pretty good shot at a win.

I think the bigger issue here is that we are going to split the vote. We need to rally behind one candidate. Mark Sutcliffe won by a margin of over 20000 votes in 2022. Split votes aren’t going to help here. A plan to get more votes will.

I think this is aimed in part @neilsara.bsky.social who has no municipal experience and announced yesterday his plans to run for mayor. This would split the left vote and lead to another Sutcliffe win.

I think it depends on their specific background. For example, I can think of at least one career politician who would’ve benefited from some experience outside of government. Generalizations like this just add to the divisiveness that’s pervasive today, not helpful at all.
