Also, thank you to those who have already reached out with words of support and encouragement this week. Knowing that there are lovely humans like you out there has made this week a lot easier and has helped me already start looking to a brighter future.

If you happen to know of a team that wouldn’t mind adding a designer/writer with nearly 20 years experience in games to your team, I’d love to meet up and chat, see if we’re a match!

As for my next role… I have no idea where I’m going! I’d love to stay in the UK because my family has spent the last few years building a life for ourselves and we haven’t even scratched the surface of things to do here and I love meeting members of the creative community on these little islands.

For anyone at the studio, apologies for not being able to send a farewell e-mail. Please feel free to reach out here on LinkedIn and I would love to stay in touch.

I’m very proud of the work I did there and I can’t wait to see how the fans react, but it is a bit bittersweet because I was really looking forward to completing this project with a fantastic team.

Well, it’s time for another one of “those” type of game dev posts! Due to circumstances beyond my control, my last day with Playground Games was earlier this week.

I’ll soon be available for game design, creative direction, and consultancy opportunities while I develop my own projects. I’m also open to paid speaking engagements if you know of any! If you’d be willing to share/repost this, or just send a kind word, I’d truly appreciate it. Thank you! ♥

this is an excellent talk by @thewritegame.bsky.social and @katedollarhyde.bsky.social that I am just not going to be able to livetweet because it’s so dense, but this reminder that building games with companions is a specific skill that a studio needs several tries to master is SO crucial

I've been working on this for about 5 months, some days over 16 hours a day. I can't do physical labor, can't work most jobs. I write and I draw. It's what I do - all I can do - and I'm decent at it. I even do it with my mouth because I can't use my hands. 1/? www.kickstarter.com/projects/len...

(Aside: We're so lucky to have had so much support from my colleagues, friends, and most everyone on this little island for embracing our strange Canadian ways and being so supportive of our journey. You will never know how much we truly appreciate everything you have done for us.)

The Sad: After nearly four years with TCR and those little fang-faces, it was time for me to embrace the dawn. However, the Bloodlines 2 team is in a fantastic space and I can't wait for everyone to see this incredible game!

I warned that an update was coming... Updates (both happy and sad)! The Happy: I'm pleased to let everyone know that I have accepted a role with the wonderful people at Playground Games! I'm tickled turquoise to start this next chapter of my career and I can't wait to dig into the Fable world.

too much gamedev advice focuses on making a success. success is such a complicated, often random, and subjective thing. i want more advice on learning from your failures or even openly celebrating failure. destigmatize failure please 🙏🥲

"People need room to suck." 100% agreed. Every failure leads to the possibility of awesome. Sometimes the failure itself is goddamn spectacular, if not for the reason you wanted it to be...

Spending my last day at TCR today (update coming soon!). Likely because of this, I had a dream last night where I went around the studio and had to do a scavenger hunt to find all of my personal things that were moved around to multiple floors and hidden.

This is what I mean when I say to just make that thing you want to make, even if it’s garbage, especially today in the world of AI-generated dreck. One person’s absolute dogshit passion project will be 1000000% more powerful than a million auto-generated books thrown onto Amazon.
