Online gambling has been legal in Alberta for a few days. We were watching something with ads ad 7 out of 8 ads were for online casinos or sports betting. I assume palms were greased cuz I can’t see how this is a good thing

Canada would benefit greatly from more games industry events, like Edmonton’s NAGIS and GCC. It’s especially attractive to international creatives who aren’t into the States right now. But gosh it would also be nice to see our government commit more to the arts than we’re seeing in Alberta.

I will say this much: there is zero shame in leaving the game industry. Be it because you're not finding your next role, or because you're tired of it and need a break. The industry doesn't deserve the people who work in it, and you owe it nothing.

The value proposition of working at an AAA studio was that you were trading independence and agency for stability, and that if the game did well, you would keep your job, and if the game did badly, you might lose it. Obviously it wasn’t that cut and dry, but you get it. Now? You just lose your job.
