The Signalman stands at the foot of some steps leading up to his signalbox, his shadow is cast across the ground by the light from within the box. A single rail track runs alongside the box and into the mouth of a dark tunnel. The man and his box are situated at the bottom of a damp and dark ravine, large slabs of rock and stone form a cutting through a gloomy wood. At the mouth of the tunnel is a mysterious and ghostly figure, it is waving one arm white covering its face with the other, the signalman stares in its direction, he has his back to us. An atmospheric and spooky illustration that hopefully conveys the sense of dread and loneliness as felt by the Signalman.

These were three individual pieces I did in 2021. Unplanned, they became something of an accidental sequence. They then prompted me to make the piece in the quoted post, of the pumpkin dance, by way of a conclusion. Ink on Fabriano Medioevalis, each 95 × 64 mm.

Three small silhouette drawings in black ink. The first is of a sitting fox, looking back over its shoulder at a bird on the branch of a little bare shrub. The second has a playful-looking fox, half-crouched, tail in the air, looking at a bird which has just taken off from a branch. The third shows a fox, surprised, its head drawn slightly back, as it seems to have come upon a pumpkin on the ground, surrounded by its vines. It has a face like a carved jack-o'-lantern.

Onagadori Rooster. Ink and gouache on Fabriano Medioevalis, 85 × 132 mm, 2022.

Drawing in black ink, primarily in silhouette, of an Onagadori rooster with long flowing tail covert feathers on a plum blossom branch. The rooster's comb and wattle are the only spots of red. The piece is smaller than a postcard and is photographed with the traditional Chinese brush it was drawn with.
