ICE has abducted Senegalese WBB player Aminata Seck and won't release her. DHS 'policy' is to provide medical care to prisoners at intake, yet they admit to denying her care for an ACL injury for 1.5 months. The NCAA is letting it happen, despite its predatory recruitment of ICAs. We explain.

ICE has abducted a college athlete. What are the NCAA and universities going to do about it?
Aminata Seck’s detention shows the bargain facing international college athletes: universities eagerly recruit them, but support can disappear when their immigration status becomes precarious.

It is breathtaking. Like many things these days it is hard, but necessary, to figure what is a continuity and what is a rupture. EdTech has always been a private sector parasite feeding off the public sector. The rupture is AI EdTech is experimenting on the rich instead of the poor.

As for Nimtz’s broadsides against Robinson, I’ll admit I’ve just never read Cedric Robinson as so fundamentally incompatible with revolutionary anticapitalism. Still, I do appreciate aspects of Nimtz’s commentary, in particular on Marx’s eurocentrism. 6/

Our book was an invited piece for a series on King. It is a work of reconstructive critical theory and is highly speculative. Nimtz says repeatedly that he’s not interested in theory, only practice. Then why engage our book? 5/

Andrew J Douglas @ajdouglas.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
Nimtz cites only a decontextualized remark from our intro and a line we quote from Oliver Cox (which he appears to attribute to us). It’s true we draw on Cedric Robinson a fair bit, which I guess makes us guilty by association. 4/

Our chapter two is about how King’s dialectical methodology, critique of ideology and reification, and emphasis on rational expansion of social and productive capacity all dovetail with Marx. Chapter thee invokes Marx on the value-form to reread King on the “worldwide revolution of value.” 3/

Andrew J Douglas @ajdouglas.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
Prophet of Discontent is not a “critique of Marx on the race question.” It is, however, an effort to reconstruct a critical theory of capitalist society that King’s work presupposes. In parts of the book that Nimtz appears not to have read, we show considerable affinities between King and Marx. 2/
