It's depressing to know that the best years of your life were likely in the 2010s and we'll all be looking back in a decade or two wondering how this country could be so stupid to throw it all away. We can't say they weren't warned because they were. Unfortunately, people only learn from disaster.

I don't recall any previous transformative technologies that had to be sold to the public so hard. No one in 1999 was going, "Guys. Cell phone? It's coming, whether we like it or not. I think it's important, FOR WOMEN ESPECIALLY, to learn about cell phone. So that we're not left behind!!"

I wrote about everything happening too much in 2026 and the rise of ‘monitoring the situation. How total bombardment is partly a surrender to the internet and its logic and algorithms—a kind of attentional death

“I just made sure to introduce myself and make her feel comfortable and that she’s welcome because she is,” he said. “I want to be inclusive with everyone, no matter race, no matter gender. Really where you’re from, what language you speak. It’s not hard to be inclusive and welcoming and happy. I think it could change the world.”

What does it tell voters, who have said unequivocally we want fighters, that you sit & silently witness your own humiliation? If you will not fight for yourselves, are we to believe you will for us?

Authoritarians use performative lying to mark who is for, and more importantly, against their regimes. The point isn’t determining truth. The point is creating an ingroup whose loyalty is assured through ritually denying reality and an easily recognizable outgroup that refuses the delusion.

Not sure how to summarize this one. Wrote about the podcaster-occupied government invading for content, how the algorithmic internet is governed by the logic of reaction videos, and how it has contributed to a very nihilistic illiterate politics and culture of performance for imagined audiences

The mythical media trump—who knows anything about what he's talking about—is on a collision course with the sudden need to pretend to know nothing at all about a story that he's had lots of help trying to forget.

This answer that Mamdani provided in a 2020 interview shows that he has always been extremely open about the complexities of his diasporic identity and remains the perfect rebuttal to the attempted scandal the NYT is trying to create today. africasacountry.com/2020/01/roti...
“It’s definitely a complex journey because I am many different things all at once. There’s no question in my mind that I’m Ugandan. There’s no question in my mind that I’m Indian. And there’s no question in my mind that I’m a New Yorker. And I’m all of these things, yet in each of these places I’ve been made to feel that it’s not actually my home to call– in Uganda, I’m told this guy is actually Indian, in India, I’m told this guy is actually Muslim, and in New York I’m everything but a New Yorker.

But I’m realizing that it’s not a determination I should be outsourcing to others. It’s something that if I know and feel, then I need to become comfortable in asserting. Others will take time in catching up to that.”

Someone has gone through and actually run the numbers on molestation crimes against children. The politicians who commit these crimes are overwhelmingly Republican. 67% of politicians convicted between February 10, 2023 and May 23, 2024 nationwide were Republicans. www.whoismakingnews.com

I know the material reasons for the rise of fascism. I also think another reason - which doesn’t get talked about as much because it’s embarrassing that humans can be that naive - is that when you are financially comfortable but bored, abstract cruelty can give you a sense of purpose.

The Super Bowl felt like a “get off the mat” moment for those of us who don’t share Trump's dark vision for America. From the ads to the pregame show to Kendrick Lamar’s flag to the team that won, this was a day that reminded us where the real power in America is. www.usatoday.com/story/sports...

New Orleans jazz, Kendrick Lamar's halftime show, even the Philadelphia Eagles' victory a reminder of all that's good in America.

It's amazing how badly most congressional Democrats are misreading the mood of their base. On the bright side, if you're ever considered running for Congress, the 2026 Democratic Party primaries are going to be a prime moment for "throw the old guard out" insurgents.

The freedom to live how one wants, to love who one wants, to form families based on desire and kinship rather than societal obligation, to control one’s own body - these are all essential conditions for a tolerable life for many people, and right now no one is aggressively defending them.

I’m never surprised with the Democratic Party for behaving like feckless idiots, but there’s an obvious affirmative case to be made for trans rights alongside reproductive rights and LGBTQ rights and it’s about FREEDOM which is something you would think US politicians wouldn’t be afraid to embrace.

“Bernie would have won” is a statement of values. It doesn’t mean him specifically, this time, at his age, would have won. (Though he would have in 2016.) It means we know what it takes to win. Authenticity. Left populism. A willingness to go anywhere to fight for your beliefs.
