I can't stop thinking how wrong the tech bros have understood creativity and creators. Or even just having hobbies. #erliart

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

The sudden desire was due to the enormous amounts suddenly being pumped in, with a backdrop that the collapse of ITV Digital sent a lot of clubs into insolvency in the early 00s. Add Leeds and Pompey into that and the rationale is pretty obvious

Three years ago tonight, I was in the presence of the most remarkable supercell thunderstorm that I have ever had the privilege of witnessing. For over an hour, I watched it dance beneath the starts, spinning like a top. Mother nature will never cease to amaze, inspire, and humble me.

Definitely some tough misses (Nathan Barley, all the Scandi noir stuff, Catastrophe, Brass Eye, Red Riding Trilogy, The Thick of It) and also there’s stuff I’m sure is great I haven’t seen (The Americans, Breaking Bad, Deadwood) but yes, this feels ok

Pretty incredible that the World Cup just happened and was exceedingly well attended and made everyone a boat load (literally in the case of the Seattle fan zone) of money for everyone involved and the response has mostly been “lol cute” since the tournament ended

Daniel Job is a really interesting guy and his transfer to FC Dallas raises a lot of questions about process, player evaluation, and league translation. In the closer look, I try to flesh out what a talent eval workflow could look like, and why it's harder than just "this player good."

We recommend avoiding general and often dehumanizing "the" labels such as the poor, the mentally ill, the French, the disabled, the college-educated. Instead, use wording such as people with mental illnesses. And use these descriptions only when clearly relevant.

Replying to @APStylebook

The use of "the French" in this tweet by @AP was inappropriate and has caused unintended offense. An updated tweet is upcoming.

Carries > dribbling mostly because the definition of a dribble is baggy and isn’t what you’d think it means (Futi sensibly lumps both together as this post makes clear)
