“Aides said he talked about Ivanka Trump’s breasts, her backside, and what it might be like to have sex with her, remarks that prompted Kelly to remind the president that Ivanka was his daughter,” writes Miles Taylor, a former chief of staff at the DHS, in his new book, according to Newsweek.

One more bit of data. One thing I learned, haphazardly is that FB never deleted user data, unless requested (and I don't trust that). That's something no other ad tech company could afford. We had to age out personal data or our costs would skyrocket. FB did not.

In my informed, professional opinion, the amount of data Facebook maintains hot per user is simply not affordable UNLESS they were receiving significant breaks in storage costs. I imagined a factory that was sending them drives far below market prices. However, tax breaks work too.

Some of the wrongest in politics are “popularists,” who say public opinion can’t be changed, so politicians should never try to lead, only follow polls. This meant treating 2024 as permanent, conceding on immigration and other things. But as @gregsargent.bsky.social writes, the opposite’s working.

In one violent incident on August 1, immigration agents in CPD's 25th District station lot boxed in an ICE observer, ripped her from her car and moved her to one of their SUVs to detain her. We asked for security footage from that morning. It shows ICE agents in full view of local police:

There is a moment at the very very end of Abdul El-Sayed's podcast with Ezra Klein (book recommendation section) where he talks about the idea of "speaking truth to pain" and this will be staying with me for an extremely long time. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/25/o...
But there’s also something about truth to pain. We talk a lot about truth to power, but I think it’s actually a lot harder to speak truth to pain. I say that as someone who went to medical school, realizing that in a lot of our politics right now, we’ve got to get a lot better at speaking truth to pain if we’re going to get through some of these challenges that we have.

What does “truth to pain” mean?

It’s one thing to look power in the eye and say: You’re wrong about this. But there’s a way in which pain is very difficult to reason with. Because when somebody is in their pain, they’re in their trauma. They see that pain, and they may not see what’s causing it.

I remember just very explicitly being in a trauma ward with a gunshot wound patient and watching this big guy with his hand on his gunshot wound. All the folks are trying to pull his hand off his pain, that point of his gunshot wound, this clear vulnerability.

And this emergency room doctor had the presence of mind to be like: Everyone, stop. And she looks him in the eyes, and she’s like: I get that really hurts, and I’m so sorry that you’re here. You don’t want to be here. We don’t want you to be here. But if you don’t let us fix this, you could die. So I’m going to take your hand, and I’m going to move it off, OK? Because I need to get there so that you can live.

She was speaking truth to pain. He understands he’s at the hospital, he needs care, but he also doesn’t want anybody to touch the wound. Which is a natural thing. And I think it is a really great metaphor for how we think about a lot of these challenges we talked about today.

Yep. They are likely to obtain convictions as well, but in the past these charges primarily result in small fines (and then almost certain deportation should ICE pursue it). Here's a representative sample of outcomes from previous federal prosecutions. The most common outcome is a sub-$500 fine.
A table showing name, immigration status, nationality, election(s), and notes.

Here are some examples in the chart:
- Rosemarie Angelika Harris, Lawful Permanent Resident, Germany, 2016, Pled guilty and was fined $75.
- Isac Dakuyo,	Lawful Permanent Resident,	Burkina Faso,	2016,	Charges dropped after completing a pretrial diversion program.
- Hyo Suk George	Lawful Permanent Resident	South Korea	2008, 2010, 2016	Registered to vote after a town council member suggested she do so. Pled guilty and was fined $100.
- Merious Jean	Lawful Permanent Resident	Haiti	2016 Pled guilty and was fined $125.
- Juan Francisco Landeros-Mireles	Lawful Permanent Resident	Mexico	2012, 2016	Sentence to 2 years probation and $1,200 fine
- Nebi Ademi	Lawful Permanent Resident	Macedonia	2016	Pled guilty and was fined $443.

The Supreme Court’s majority gave no reason for its literal life-and-death decision to wipe out an appeals court order issued earlier today and which was, on its face, intended to be temporary in nature. Sotomayor wrote tonight’s dissent. Order and dissent: www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25p...
The Court's decision to vacate that stay interferes with the Sixth Circuit's routine administrative handling of a capital case and unnecessarily prevents that court from giving due consideration to Pike's claim. Worse, the Court grants such extraordinary relief solely to allow the State to execute Pike before litigation over her conviction has properly run its course in the lower courts. I see no reason to short-circuit the ordinary process of appellate review, particularly in light of the grave consequences of an erroneous de-cision. Tennessee's desire to expedite Pike's execution by a few days or even weeks cannot outweigh her "fundamentalinterest in [her] own life." Tennessee v. Garner, 471 U. S. 1,
9 (1985).
In capital cases, "[a]ppreciation of our own fallibility, and respect for the judgment of an appellate tribunal," demand caution before "acting irretrievably." Bowersox v. Williams,
517 U. S. 345, 347 (1996) (Ginsburg, J., dissenting). Indeed, this Court often states that it is "'a court of review, not of first view?" McLane Co. v. EEOC, 581 U.S. 72, 85 (2017) (quoting Cutter v. Wilkinson, 544 U.S. 709, 718, n. 7
(2005)). Today, the Court, as it has too often lately, chooses to overlook that principle precisely when it matters most.
