An important vote in Iowa on November 3 will require you to flip your ballot over. #VoteNOonAmendment1 #Iowa
The facts on Amendment 1. If passed, Amendment 1 would make it harder to raise taxes on the wealthy and corporations, and could make it harder to fund services Iowans rely on. Vote NO on Amendment 1. Paid for by Fair Taxes for Iowa's Future. Amendment 1 will make it harder to tax the wealthy and corporations. If passed, Amendment 1 would require a two-thirds vote in the Legislature to raise corporate or personal income taxes or create a new income tax. What does this mean for Iowans? Just a few legislators will be able to easily block the will of Iowans

It will encourage law makers to solve our budget problems by increasing sales tax

Programs that help Iowans get by and get ahead will be trimmed or cut entirely

Big-money special interests will be empowered to hold bills hostage

Paid for by Fair Taxes for Iowa's FutureSupermajority requirements are undemocratic. Just 17 senators or 34 representatives could block the majority and the Iowans they represent. Supermajority requirements reward obstruction, making one no vote equal to two yes votes. Paid for by Fair Taxes for Iowa's Future. Vote NO on Amendment 1. On Election Day, remember to flip your ballot over and vote no on Amendment 1. Paid for by Fair Taxes for Iowa's Future.

States across the country face a rushed timeline and limited federal guidance to implement Medicaid work requirements, increasing the risk that eligible people will lose coverage over red tape. www.cbpp.org/research/hea...

States Need More Time to Prepare for Medicaid Work Requirement
Years of evidence across multiple programs show that work requirements don’t increase employment but do take coverage away from eligible people, regardless of how well a state tries to implement them.

I'm glad that AOC was able to say this in plain language that normal people can understand.
Ocasio-Cortez isn't convinced. She's not sure that these are the kinds of proposals Democrats should start building an agenda around.

"When you actually look at the totality of what's being put forward, we are seeing a total gutting of a resource base," Ocasio-Cortez told NOTUS. "If people want to choose between whether they want guaranteed health care or a 5% tax rebate, people are going to want guaranteed health care."

"It's not to say that I object to any and all like tax cuts or tax rebates, right? We can help people who are struggling, but I don't think that the biggest impact in how you help someone and how we help people make ends meet is through that avenue," she said.Ocasio-Cortez said "across the board" tax cut proposals on the table amount to an "attack" on young people.

"It is a complete defunding of the world that young people will have to live in, and they are asking young people to foot the bill," Ocasio-Cortez said.

Iowa's public schools are chronically underfunded. Health care and food assistance costs are rising, with more being shifted to the state by last July's Republican megabill. Voters should make it EASIER—not harder—for policymakers to invest in communities. Source: @commongoodiowa.bsky.social

Fitting for Groundhog's Day week, an #IAlegis Senate committee advanced a bill yesterday that would do the same thing the Legislature did last year, and the year before that: slowly starve our schools. It falls far below what's needed to keep up with rising costs & meet the needs of Iowa students.

Racial and ethnic differences in Chad party rates have widen after 2021s child tax credit expansion and other pandemic relief narrowed them.
